What resistor should I get for my LED's?

I am currently installing the Sportisi undertail kit, and for the LED turn signals I need a resistor, anyone know what OHM's it should be or anything?

Sorry I don't know much about electronics, just basics. I had no idea that a resistor was needed until Matt from Sportisi told me. . .

Onother good source would be one of our members - ninja250. He is an electronics genious. Very nice guy. Give him some time to respond as he has a few projects he is doing and lots of people askinf for advice.

If you need a resistor for a single regular 12v LED, start about 470ohms.
You can adjust brightness by going down in value for brighter and up in value for dimmer. You'll likely end up going lower. If you go too low in value, you will fry it. So be careful.

I have no idea if this applies to motorcycle LED tail lights or not.
This would just apply to a regular LED plugged into a 12 volt supply.
So in essence, you should be safe plugging it in with a 470ohm resistor for sure. Unless it's more than one LED and draws more load than 20mah or something like a regular LED does.

What is the current rating of the LED's and how many of them are there? This will give us the current load requirement, for which you can set a resistance since you know you'll be running 12v.

I am not sure what you mean by current rating of the LED's. But there are 4 per signal.

It would be way simpler to find an electronic flasher relay. The one you need has 2 leads, so I recommend you go to the Napa and pick up a 2 lead electronic flasher relay, instead of adding resisor in all 4 corner of the bike and having to cut all 4 turn signal wires.

If you really want to add the resistors, then you must provide us with the current rating, usually displayed in (mA) (milliamps) or you might also see it in amps (A) this info is probably on the packaging or maybe not at all... GL

Once this info has been provided we can then calculate the proper value of the resistor.

If you're not doing LED's in the front your stock flasher might be fine. If not, get an electronic LED flasher. If adding load resistors you'd only need them in the front or the back, not all 4, as the wire is the same. I highly recommend NOT adding the resistors as they get fairly hot and the LED flasher shouldn't cost much more than the resistors, and a lot easier to install.

I can't help but to think that someone might be able to find resisters rated with the correct wattage to handle the heat if they did decide to go that route.

1/4 watt resistors from radio shack won't hang with a 12v, 10a system (120w) and LED's drawing an amp or two.

Sure, a 10 ohm 10w would work fine but you still must mount it where it can get air and not touch other wires, I'm just saying that an LED flasher is the best way to solve "no-flash" syndrome.

Hmmm... from what i've read... and have learned, get an electronic flasher bc resistors are not always the best path, also if you plan on installing LED's for the front signals as well, youll need to install a diode under the dash, theres a thread somewhere on how to do that. Resistors can get kinda hot from what I know so I wouldnt go that route. Ill brb with the thread on resistors diodes and relays.
