Gas gauge issues

Has anyone else had a issue with the gas gauge on ninja 250r? The tank is full but the gauge says empty

It's probably the most common problem with the 08+ 250r

My gas gauge says I have less gas than I actually do.
It says 7/8ths tank when I'm full to the brim.
I guess that's a good thing. I refuel at 1/8th tank so means I prolly have 1/4 tank left every time I refuel. Would explain the $8 fill-ups.

My speedo indicates 5mph faster than I'm really moving too.
None of the gauges are ever really perfect on these things.

Mines inaccurate too, thats why I judge by the trip meter instead.

are you saying even when your gas tank is full your gauge reads empty or that your gauge does not accurately reflect the amount of gas in your tank?

My fuel gage is slightly inaccurate, but its no worse than any of the cars I've owned.

That sounds like a dead fuel sender issue. make sure the wires are securely connected to the sender under the tank. If the bike is still under warranty, have it checked by the dealer if you would like it replaced.

The only fix for the fuel level issue is a new sender.

The sense coil is wound all funky(sometimes) and the wiper has too much tension and wears out the button (usually) and the wire coil. If your gas gauge isn't indicating at all, as KKIM stated, either the sender is disocnnected (under the tank) or the sender is dead or the gauge is dead. Start with the easy stuff first.

Luckily, the replacement is only about 30 minutes worth of work.

I can never understand why motorcycle gauges are always so inaccurate. Its not like the technology isn't there. I remember reading in a magazine one brand of bikes had really accurate guages. I know different tire brands and profile may affect the guage but by over 10%. Also the fuel guage should be a easy one to get right.

My tank fills from empty tend to be just shy of 4 gallons. 3.8 or so. I kinda like it actually. It's like setting your clock ten minutes ahead so you're never late.
