SoCal mobile mechanic thoughts
So @alex.s and I have been playing with the idea of starting a mobile mechanic service for the locals around us. Our prices would be much lower then any shop, we can come to you, and you actually get to interact with some cool guys while your bike gets worked on
Would anyone be interested? We can do anything from syncing carbs, to complete engine rebuilds. Anyone have anything they need help with? OR maybe we could do tech-day classes and host different weekends about different topics, from pulling carbs to syncing to jetting, all of that No engine work on the pregen, sorry guys, I just havent worked on them yet to feel comfortable enough. Coolant and oil changes are ok for the pre though

That sounds like a good, idea. I rather learn and watch from you guys rather than "trust" a shop to do the correct work.

Sounds like a cool idea. I for one would definitely shell out cash for trusted dudes who know basically everything there is to know about my bike, rather than go to a shop I don't know lol

Think you guys will offer classes as well? I'd rather pay to learn than have people do it for me.
*EDIT* Didn't read the last part of the post. Forgive me I'm sleep deprived Sign me up for that tech day! |

The point is to re-cooperate costs, help ken and crissy out. Me and alex loose a good amount of money every time we work on bikes as is. Clearly people are wanting help on how to work on there bikes, or dont care about doing it themselves and want someone else to do it for them. Do you really think we would be making a ton of money off of this?

So I think we are on different levels
Tech days will be different then the classes that I am thinking. The class will be a small charge, and we will cover one or two subjects. Lets say we start out small the first class and just do coolant changes and flushing brakes, we show you how to do it and if you have any questions then we are there to assist and show you the ropes

Will you be seeking a BAR license? Problem with performing unlicensed repairs is that if there ever is a dispute, the provider loses immediately if they aren't licensed. So if you charge someone $155 for the repair, and break something that costs them any amount of money to fix, they go to court and win by default, and you get fined and shut down by the state. As well as owing the potential $$$$ to your ex-customer to get the bike fixed somewhere else.
So - you can either limit your work to only the closest of friends who would never consider seeking a judgement against you, or you risk losing all the money you'd ever earn in the venture (and more). For what it's worth, people set up unlicensed shops (and unlicensed mobile repair) services all the time, they just only last right up until they have their first problem. By the nature of mechanical objects, there is guaranteed to be such a problem, it's just a numbers game.

@Kevin2109 does great work... Definitely trust this guy. I would definitely have him do work on my bike. Speaking of more work... My rear brake caliper somehow came off my bike and was dragged for miles. Might need to replace... Should I do upgraded brake lines and pads at the same time?

I think its a cool idea, someone does that around where I live and drives a huge purple van. Everyone knows it when they see it, but like Alex says, the licensing and required insurance would be an investment for sure.

If anything, I'd still pay for some lessons. If they no longer want to do work on bikes, that's fine, knowledge is worth more anyway. Give a man a fish, etc.

I'd keep the rear OEM just cause upgrading the lines/pads on the rear will just make it lock up easier. Save $$% for other things. My
