confirmation of key code
Hi Everyone,
I know its another key code thread but I searched the forum and no one has given a complete answer. I've read that the code is on the ignition but no one has confirmed cutting the key from there. Can anyone confirm? I went to the locksmith and he took the pattern from the gas cap. I've read that that doesn't work because the ignition is different. Is this true as well? I also read the helmet lock has the code but i have only for the older generations. I have an 09 ninja 250r. |

Hillbilly Cycles can cut a new key from that code.

If you have one of the originals and need a spare, you can order a blank (~$10) from your Kawi dealer and have it cut anywhere that cuts keys.
Edit: Are you asking if a key cut for the gas tank will work for the ignition and vice versa? I'm positive it will. |

Are you sure of this? I know that an ignition key will work in the gas tank (of course), but I thought that the gas tank tumblers only used a portion of the key, so one cut only for the gas tank wouldn't work as an ignition key. But I hope this thread can clarify that.

In short, all three locks (ignition, helmet/trunk and gas cap) use the same key but the only lock that uses 100% of the key is the ignition.

Well, as stated in the other key thread, Hillbilly Cycle Sales in Princeton, WV is the go-to place for getting keys cut by code. If they're uncomfortable working with you since you're not stateside, let me know. I live about 45min from them, happy to liaison. That said, I haven't heard of them having any such qualms.

I ended up getting the key cut from the car key that i use.If your wondering why its a car key its because the its salvaged and the seller used a car key to make a key. The locksmith said he couldn't cut it from the 4 digit code near the ignition. The key works but only works one way and it doesn't lock the steering .

How much was it from HillBilly?
I called Kawaski USA and they referred me to KawaskiKeys.com. Cost about $35 shipped TYD. Plus they require Proof of ownership so no one can just take your code and make "extras". |

Yes, You will just need the 4 digit code off the ignition and registration for the proof of ownership.

Kawasakikeys.com is pretty good. They source their keys through Lockworld in California and those guys will call you with updates as they cut and ship your key. It was a smooth and easy transaction. Good Communication too.
