My bike shuts off if i throttle in neautral.

i bought this 2010 ninja 250r with only 150 miles. Brand new. It had been laying around for years at the warehouse from the person I bought it from. First the battery had no life so I installed a new battery which help start up the bike. The only problem it has is when I start the bike up in neutral and I throttle it,The bike turns off. Anybody know why? If I am in any other gear it wont shut down or if I choke it in neutral and throttle it wont shut off, it will only shut off when I take the choke off in neutral and throttle it. what could the problem. It looks new but has been laying around for years. its my first bike and I am afraid to ride because of this. Thanks

Is the bike fully warmed up? You may be giving it too much throttle at once in neutral. Also, clean your carbs. The main jet probably has some guck in it.

Main problem in bold. Carbs are dirty. If it works with the choke ON but not OFF, the carb circuits are plugged. Disassemble and thoroughly clean. @ducatiman has parts kits for sale that include new gaskets and float needles.

Have fun taking out the carbs.... I recently took out the airbox and the carbs and it was a pain in the arse.
