----------------- Johnny Rea has topped the timesheets in the first session of free practice for the World Superbike class at Portimao, the Castrol Honda rider sneaking ahead of Carlos Checa in the final minutes of FP1. Checa had led for most of the first session, the Althea Ducati rider looking like celebrating his 2011 World Championship with another weekend of dominance, but he lost out to Rea at the very end. The final minutes of the session turned out to be busy at the front, with BMW Italia's Ayrton Badovini and PBM Kawasaki's Tom Sykes bumping Effenbert Liberty Ducati's Sylvain Guintoli from his slot behind Checa, Badovini setting the 3rd fastest time and Sykes going 4th fastest.
