Dead-end reference in maintenance manual
Okay, so I'm launching into the 7500 mile service.
Looking in the maintenance manual, I come upon page 2-22, "Valve Clearance Inspection" "Remove Cylinder Head Cover (see Cylinder Head Cover Removal in the Engine Top End Chapter" flip flip flip flip Page 5-14, Cylinder Head Cover Removal: "Drain the Coolant (see Coolant Change in the Periodic Maintenance Section)" flip flip flip flip... flip flip flip... flip flip... flip... Um... WHAT coolant change procedure? Not in the section on the cooling system starting on page 2-20. Okay, must be in the Cooling System section, right? Yep, right there in the contents. Page 4-8. Flip flip flip flip "Coolant Draining: Refer to Coolant Change in the Periodic Maintenance chapter" Grrrrrrrr......... Flip flip flip flip Flip flip flip Flip flip Flip AHA! It's not with the rest of the cooling system stuff. It's over on page 2-44. Which makes sense.... how? Why not just tell us which page the blasted procedure is on? |

Because if they only refer to the section, or procedure, and NOT pages, they can edit the entire publication and make changes that would otherwise alter the page that something appears on and NOT have to go back and RE-EDIT it to alter each and every page reference.
