Help! Broken Spark Plug...

I don't know what the hell happened... all I was doing was screwing on spark plugs then without warning it just broke off... I didn't even feel any pressure or it tightening... is the metal tariff on china that bad that these ngk sparks went cheap? I'M NEVER ORDERING FROM AMAZON AGAIN! For some reason the older ones seem like better quality and the new ones seem brittle af... the used one is the dirty one... the irony is that i put anti seize on the spark plug so it wouldn't seize up before i tried installing it... the good thing is that the whole threads broke off in there... the bad thing is that it broke! anyone know how to get the broken threads out of the engine?? please help...

Update: tip extracted

The good thing is the electrode came out so should not have any large bits in the cylinder.
I would try an easy out if you have one big enough and go slowly.

Uh... NGK plugs for U.S. market are made in Wood Dale, IL and Sissonville, WV by American workers. That may be problem as U.S. made Toyotas have much worse paint and lasting decades less than their Japanese countreparts. I won't say anything about reliability of U.S. made bikes compared to foreign brands, although that may be improving as plants are moved to India. Could be manufacturing defect; I've encountred with all brands. Champion seems to be worse out of them all.

Did you screw plug down as far as it will go by hand?
How many turns was that?
Did you use torque-wrench to turn it rest of way?
What torque was wrench set to?

Luckily, there's already hole in threaded section where an extractor can fit.

Thanks guys! I got it out with an extractor bit. I thought it was just me but had my bro in law check it out and he had the same problem.... The threads on the cylinder seem to have been stripped on the top end of the block, but its still got threads left on the bottom and seem to have went in fine. I just purchased this bike and the last guy that owned the bike may have stripped it. I'm still getting around to getting familiarized with the bike. It may need a helicoil in the future... I've updated the picture photos on top! take a look!

Be careful and don't force plug on if threads are mangled. That's how this mess was started.

First, you'll want to clean up and re-form threads with thread-chaser: https://www.amazon.com/Performance-T.../dp/B002KS9ETS

Next time when you replace plugs and find threads buggered, don't use helicoil type repair. They are for permanent locations like head studs or main bearing-caps that will be removed once or twice during bike's lifetime. Repeated installation and removal like spark-plugs will cause coils to come out with plugs eventually. You'll want to use 1-piece solid-steel insert for more durable repair of plug threads.

Did you use the link I posted above to see if the plugs are real NGKs or counterfeits? I'd like to know if counterfeit plugs have gotten to Amazon, and I bet they'd like to know too.

You, sir may be onto something... I would never guessed they could have been counterfeited... I'm not accusing them of counterfeit, but you can see the pictures for yourself. The amazon one is the one all the way to the right. You can see how the NGK print is off centered on the amazon one while laying on a bolt side. The rest of them seem to be centered dead on (even the used one, the one that is all black). The one from amazon also looks a little bit bigger as well... IDK if its fake or not... but I'm not buying from amazon again... The photo doesn't do it justice, but you can see the amazon one is also brightly chromed color whereas the ones from the auto parts store are kind of yellowish.

How about the 4 digit code on the face of the hex? I don't see it on the Amazon plug.

Amazon just provides the listing, order-flow and shipping logistics. Actual vendor is 3rd party. Let Amazon know who that was who fulfilled your order and they can investigate. Also let us know who the seller was so we can avoid them.

That's interesting. I was working on a honda generator for a friend. It too had an NGK sparkplug, that broke of at the ceramic section. It wasn't even bottomed out. No torque applied. 2 or 3 turns in, and "snap". I replaced with a new NGK, and it simply felt higher in quality and build. Thanks for the link!
