Speedometer gear

Curious to know if anyone knows of an alternative spacer in lieu of the speedo gear housing. I'll be running an aftermarket digital speedometer with a magnetic pickup and would prefer a more aesthetic look rather than a hollowed out OEM speedo gear housing unit.

If not, do I just go to town on the stock unit with a flathead and some snapring pliers?
