Power Commander for new bike?
Im thinking of upgrading to a ZX6R or a cbr600. Do I need to put a Power Commander on a brand new bike?

Do you need a power commander on one of those bikes? I think you need to ride the bike first and answer that question for yourself. I think you will find that they have more than enough power as is.

I'd personally wait a week or two before the power commander. Chances are you won't have the bike that long so you will save the money.

Get the correct software and hardware and tune it the right way. My Buell had a Dobeck TFI which is pretty much the same thing. The Buell normally looks after the tuning by itself with adaptive modes based on the O2 sensor. The TFI connected to the O2, temp, and both injectors. It ran when I got it, and after getting the tuning software and making the cable I found a bunch of error codes. Ditched the TFI, put the stock muffler back on, and reset the error codes. Runs a lot better now. When summer gas gets back in the pumps I'll start tuning the few rough spots that are still left.

The power commanders can be nice if set up right, but they can also destroy a bike if they arent.
Unless you've got experience with mapping a bike, steer clear of the power commander. |
