How long have you....?
Whats the longest riding day you've ever had?
Today I did 11 hours of mostly interstate riding on the ninja 250R, in 85-90F temps....amazingly, I feel GREAT although I am tired!.....and so does the bike. It started off pretty normal....I rode up I-75 north to Capitol Cycles in Macon, did a little motorcycle shopping, then rode back down I-75 to meet up with my friend I met on ninjette.org, met up and traveled back up the interstate to Juliette, GA, and visited the whistle stop cafe, and the old mill motorcycle museum. The whistle stop cafe was in the movie "fried green tomatoes". Ate lunch, then hopped back on the interstate....mid-way hopped off and went for a jaunt through the twisties,...then met up with some other friends, hopped back on the interstate, and took off for "Fish n Pig" a resturant on Lake Tobesofkee....then hopped back on the interstate and rode all the way home. Left at 8am, got back home at 9pm Fantastic day of riding.....AWESOME. |

Sounds like a fun day! My longest riding days have all been part of the Cal24 rallies I've been in, basically 24 hrs of riding from sat morning through to sun morning. Longest distance on one was a little over 1400 miles 2 years ago, when the winning route appeared to be a trek from San Jose, CA up to Portland, OR before heading back to the bay area for some more fun.

I just did almost 12 hours today with maybe 2 hours worth of breaks, so about 10 hours seat time. Went all the way out to WV with Andre and some guys from MD. The twisties out there are amazing. Too bad it takes so %(*& long to get to them. I'm pretty exhausted, but it was well worth it.

I plan on doing at least one Iron Butt ride on my 250, probably the Minnesota 1000 next year. I did 2500 miles in 48.5 hours on my 750 Nighthawk 8 years ago around all 5 Great Lakes. Long distance riding gets in your blood.

About 13 hours. That's how long it took me to do a round trip to the Three Twisted Sisters from my home (about 500 miles or so).

Ahh, I LOVE that road!
Longest was probably on one of our camping trips. We usually ride 12-14 hours when riding up there because once we get there, we start riding the twisties until late. By the way, Bryan, I'm from the WR/Macon area and my fam still lives there. Hubby's fam lives in Bonaire. We ride our bikes down there often, so maybe we'll spot each other some day.

Ive been gradually building up more and more seat time...mainly because I plan to take some far longer trips later this year. I figured building up to it would be better than just leaping into it.

764 miles, about 11 hours ( all slab) LI - Albany _ Boston - LI....FZ6 with windshield. Stopped only for gas ( big mistake). Did 500+ a year later stopping every 100 miles to walk in circles for 5 minutes and nothing hurt the morning after.
If anybody in NY metro wants to do an Iron Butt please e-me. I'd go for a 1000 any weekend. |

So far, my longest distance has been 300 miles, which we covered in about 7 hours, including breaks and one long stop for breakfast.
My longest time in the seat, though, has been about a 9-10 hour trek, covering a little over 200 miles. It took that long because I refused to take the highway, opting instead to ride US1 the entire way home from my sister's place in Cocoa. I have to give props to the BF for that ride.....we were split up at that time and weren't really speaking. I'd ridden up to Cocoa alone the day before and had had some problems. He knew I was there and called to ask how it went. I broke down and told him the troubles I'd had. He happened to be headed south from Daytona the next day, and didn't want me riding alone, so he patiently rode through 200 miles of surface streets, traffic and red lights to see me safely home.

It's funny, all the problems I had on the ride up, I had because I didn't follow his advice. Like I said, we weren't speaking at the time, but days before the trip we did speak briefly and I told him I had a trip to Daytona planned. He proceeded to tell me everything not to do (don't leave at night....leave when it's warmer; take the highway, not the surface roads; ride with a partner, not alone) and, just because he said so, and because I can be extremely stubborn at times, I did exactly the opposite....and nearly killed myself!
We did evenually reunite and now, I bow to his better knowledge for most motorcycle and riding stuff. Most.

Weekend before last, rode from Tacoma Wa to central Ca. Left about 0715 and stopped around 10 or so in Willows, CA not sure of the distance. Next day I completed my ride to Burbank. Not sure of the time I left, I think around 8ish, but got to Burbank around 5 or 6. Those Iron butt rides sound interesting.

770 miles from ID to CO, 13hrs.
650 miles from WA to ID, 12hrs. the day before. However, I've found I can only do about 300 miles in the saddle comfortably. I need to get a better seat, and some bicycling shorts, and then I want to try a 1,000/day...

A month and a half touring the south island of New Zealand. I'd say the average per day was 8 hours. Longest day was 13 hours, I believe. Touring with a BMW though, not a ninja. Teehee.

Liz, was that an organized tour, or on your own? Want to do the same someday, I've heard NZ is a fantastic place to tour via bike.

It basically involved them planning and pre-booking our New Zealand itinerary after they received our preferences of food we like, things we like to do, etc, and then we rode unaccompanied. They don't send you thru the tourist towns and on highways either. It's all backroad twistys like you can't even imagine. GORGEOUS! We also had, in my opinion, the best accommodation and hosts EVER (we did a bunch of bed and breakfasts-not hotels), and the restaurants were amazing, every single one of them! Not one day was wasted trying to find a place to eat or anything like that. We took days off and they had given us a little pamphlet of what we could do in each town that was on our itinerary, so we did a lot of other things as well as motorbiking. They basically just removed all the asspain for us before we got there and then they sent us off. They tailored an itinerary that suited our preferences and it couldn't have been better! I recommend it to EVERYONE! So, in answer to your question, yes it was partially guided but we did it at our own pace with just the two of us. We used gotournz.com.

My primary gear is as follows:
Sidi boots Aerostitch one piece Roadcrafter Arai Corsair helmet Alpinestars & Held gloves My GPS is a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx - it's used a lot by off-road riders. I have DC wiring for it on both my 250 and 650R. It has worked flawlessly for 2 - 1/2 years. The only things I'd like would be a larger screen and Doppler Wx information. I need to purchase a GPSMAP 478 if I truly want those features. I have both a Corbin and Rick Mayer seat for my 250. I used the Corbin seat for this ride. I also use www.ldcomfort.com shorts, which I highly recommend.
