el cheapo radiator guard install

why the newgen 250 has no guard to protect radiator is quite strange. buying one is worse. they are overpriced and selection is few and far between. so i made my own. i used shock absorber mounts(1/4-20 thread) i just cut into two pieces. the rubber is resting on the core. i have slight overhang widthwise into the tanks. horn relocated to coil support.( i run sticks so it was a free mount) the material is plastic 1/8"
perforated.

its winter in georgia, so cooling will be fine. summer will be true test on airflow thru guard.

My pregen has a nice black screen in front of the radiator. I wonder if you can put one of those on a newgen.

It's the stock screen. This is about the clearest photo I have at the moment. You can just about see that it mounts to the frame of the radiator separately from the four radiator mounting bolts. They're not expensive: https://www.ebay.com/itm/87-07-KAWAS...dYCNg3&vxp=mtr

The thing that's surprising to me is that newgens don't have a screen.

The stock one is expanded steel in a thin steel frame.

Bill, the one in your link is about twice the price of the one in my link in post 5 above.

guard....

check out mc-master-carr for perforated metal sheets.....you still want max airflow, not reduced airflow...overheating, bad.

This is on a better path, but these radiator guards can be highly restrictive with regard to airflow. My issue with the OP's guard is twofold: First, the holes are too large and can still let rocks through, and second, there aren't enough holes which will cause turbulent airflow which would significantly reduce the heat transfer efficiency of the radiator. All of these guards will reduce airflow. The question is how much before it becomes a problem. I would put a stock guard on my bike before an aftermarket one.

the new gen doesn't have a guard at all. if it overheats I'll drill more holes it it. a aftermarket guard is $50 plus.

Oh. Well, it might not be too difficult to adapt a pre-gen guard. Maybe easier than starting from scratch. Just sayin'.

Well, since Ninja's run much cooler engine temperatures than is healthy (my guess is about 130-150 degrees. You'll at least get your engine closer to a healthy operating temperature.
