Talking Hello from MO

New here guys thanks for the add! I have looked up threads here for sometime now but I am having an issue and need to post a question hoping for some help.

I have a 2008 Ninja 250r, I have put about 400 miles on the bike so far since I have had it, and just did my first oil change. The washer that sits on the spring for the oil filter was missing when I disassembled so I did without it when putting everything back together. The bike ran fine before the oil change, also after the oil change I rode about 30 miles and the bike ran fine that night. The next morning I went for a doughnut run and the bike didnt want to start and idles super low like 1000rpm, had no power and backfired like crazy, it did have a backfire before hand but nothing like it is now. Also from what I have read up on the oil change it should take 1.7 quarts of oil, I put that much in and the level was at the bottom of the window, (on rear swingarm stand) I ran it for a few minutes, level still the same, ened up putting the rest of the second quart in there, level is in the middle of the window now, I am kindof new to this but am mechanically inclined. I want to say the problem is fuel related but wierd that it happened just after an oil change... What do you guys think?

Welcome!

Oil level should be checked with bike on level surface tires on ground and balanced so that it is sitting upright. I doubt that it is an overfull oil condition.
sounds more like fuel or ignition issue. possibly valves. How many miles does it have on it total? is it backfiring at Idle or at certain engine and vehicle speeds? Under acceleration or Deceleration?

It has 22,500 miles on it total, backfired on downshift before, like one or two pops at high rpm, now it crackles with a bunch of pops on downshift deceleration.

welcome aboard ! stock exhaust ? does the gas cap seal ? inside of gas tank rusty ? gasoline semi fresh ? fuel filter in place ? spark plugs have how many miles on em ? I ask aboot the exhaust , backfires = could be air leak and or lean. poplar bluff = rain, probably lots of rain. water in gasoline is bad,m'kay. if the gas cap doesn't seal that could add problems. fuel filters/ spark plugs need clean/ changed . lots of info in this site. get a soda and read . read a bunch ,take notes . good luck and I hope you get back to riding.

This is your coast-enricher not working. It's the little UFO-looking device on left of carb:

1. ensure all hoses going to it are intact and not cracked
2. remove outside cover to diaphragm
3. verify diaphragm not ripped
4. make sure eeny-tiny hole from vacuum port is not clogged. Too small to measure or feel flow, drip some dye from outside and make sure it gets to inside.
