How 'bout those gas prices?

Just saw $5.099 per gallon for regular gas at my local station. Hope it's temporary...

I hate to say this....... It will go go back down but nowhere near where it was at. Here in Louisiana we are averaging $4.20 a gallon for regular. $5.00 for diesel.
People at work have been carpooling and I have been ridding the bike more now that it’s getting warm and dry.

Gas prices seem to be going down slightly but as stated before I do not think they will return anywhere near where they were. The new normal.

Gasoline prices typically trail spot-price of crude by about 35-45 days. Which peaked mid-June, so prices have been dropping at refill stations. Currently stabilizing around $3.99-4.49/gal for 87-oct.

Last time crude went over $100 was middle of 2014, but I don't recall unleaded being this high.

Here in central Louisiana gas prices have gone down to $3.00 but diesel is staying at $4.50 a gallon. My friends with diesel trucks are now considering selling and going back to gasoline.

Having a bike has saved me so much money. Taking my KLR instead of my SUV saves me $150 a month in gas. I drive 40 miles into work and 40 back. It adds up very quickly!

How about those used bike prices?

See people asking serious cash for used bikes, sometimes close to what they cost new.... 10 years ago

Diesel trucks are now being sold dirt cheap. Not a good time to sell or buy a diesel.

I paid $5.15 yesterday. Gas station across the street was $5.47. I'll cross the street for $.30 a gallon and a nearly-empty tank.

We have been around $3.90 for a few weeks.

Would like to see diesel come down a good bit. Would be nice to get the heating oil tanks filled up at a less than ridiculous price

Gas prices are tolerable here right now but only because of the state and federal gas tax suspensions. Not all states are doing this but it obviously can’t be sustained forever.

Gas is headed back down due to draining the Strategic Petroleum Reserves.

Regular $3.09. Diesel $4.79

"Draining the SPR" is just intended to push the markets in a certain direction (when it does very little to the amount of oil actually being used/traded). Just as when OPEC announces they are cutting production - if you read the small print, what they are really doing is cutting production quotas - which they haven't actually met for months. The actual amount of oil being produced isn't affected by quota changes, if you stay producing underneath those quotas anyway.

These are just signals for the market about what might happen in the future to gas pricing, which then affects short-term trading on what gas pricing should be in the immediate future (i.e. now).

The SPR only holds about 400 million barrels of oil. US uses about 20 million barrels of oil per day. It's not some huge stash that will sustain us for years, or even months. It's about 20 days of oil - best case - if it ever gets drained from completely full of oil to completely empty.

Filled up for 2.55/gal the other day. Wish I topped off the SUV for that cost, but it was just the z125.

Speaking of gas......
Can someone tell me what the difference is between summer blend and winter blend?

Good explanation here.

Summer blend is formulated to be less likely to evaporate into the air during fueling and storage. Winter blend is formulated to make a car engine easier to start in very cold temperatures. There are other various regulatory and commercial incentives that cause the gas being made to be surprisingly different, from month to month and from location to location. But summer/winter are two main categories that can be used as shorthand.

Here in the UK, fuel is priced in litres, most I saw around here at its peak was over £2 for unleaded and £2.10 for diesel, this is at a motorway services near home, but they are always a rip off.
Round town unleaded was typically £1.92 per litre, x 4.54 to make Eng gallons, about £8.70.
We are fortunate to have 95 Ron as regular and 98-99 super unleaded available.
Prices have come down now, typically £1.49 for 95, diesel still high around £1.69.
