Brother wants to START on a gsxr1000

how can you talk a squid out of getting a gsxr 1000 as a first bike with the only prior experience being that he rode a bicycle? claims he doesn't need to be geared out because he needs to show off his tats and how much he's been working out lately, claims he cant get a 600 or 250 because a 1000 + tats+working out= a chick magnet, are u fkin seriously? how can you talk sense into that idiocy.

TLDR: Squid wants a 1000 first bike , doesn't need gear cuz tats+working out how to fix?

Let him get it. Just because your a pussy and have no tats and ride scurd in gear don't mean he needs to do the same.

Goodness, he's an adult. Tell him the risks and then let him make his decision. If he wants a liter bike, then that's his prerogative.

Never mind, just realized this was a troll joke. GG

Tell him he's an idiot and walk away. Let Darwinism run its course. I'm not talking about the liter bike so much as refusing to wear any gear. That's flat out stupid, period, even on a 250.

If you actually want to talk him out of it (you can't, I'll bet), try appealing to his wallet. Check the cost of insuring a liter bike at his age.

Or just compile a list of some of the hundreds of squid fail and road rash videos out there, especially those where some moron lets the bike get away from him.

Chances are that wouldn't work either. He might just think they're awesomely funny (witness the popularity of Jackass). Why people find others getting hurt funny never made any sense to me, but whatever.

Maybe point out that scar tissue would f*ck up his tats.

Assuming he actually reads, get him to look at this site -- it's from Brittany Morrow, aka the "Road Rash Queen." It's her story, and it starts with a gear-less (aside from helmet) ride on the back of a sportbike. She tells it straight. No drama, just what happened. She still rides, by the way. A liter bike -- R1.

http://www.rockthegear.org

If he doesn't like to read, just watch the video.... It's not gross but it will make you think. Video was shot five years after the accident. Scars are forever.....

Link to original page on YouTube.

Since it's Superbowl weekend, how about a football image to share with him while you watch the game:

Chicks think football players are hot, right? So let's say he decided to play football to become a chick magnet.

His "reasoning" would have him walk straight out of the gym and into an NFL game, with no experience.

Just what does he think would happen to him? He'd get eaten alive.

You don't. Let him get the bike he wants. Let him crash it and then make fun of him when his tats are ruined by road rash.

She was a dum ass who got on the back of a bike. It would have never happened if she was on her own.

O and also bad choice for saying you need gear as she blames the helmet for her flying off. So also no helmet no crash for her.

You can try to convince him that's not a good idea, but it might be something he needs to figure out for himself the hard way.

For some people that's the only way.

I kind of know what you mean, my younger brother is more or less the same but he was sensible enough to get a 250, yay for financial constraints!!
Now he wants to get a used 600 or a 1000. After 5 crashes, him thinking he has all the skill in the world and a season's worth of experience.
I love him but it is his life. He wants to squid around and not willing to what you have to tell him there is no point wasting your breath. I don't. Neither should you with yours. Just me 2 cents.

GSX-R 1000 isn't manly enough. He really needs to start out on a 500cc 2 stroke MotoGP bike. Maybe a nice Yamaha or Cagiva.

Be real! Everyone knows you don't have a brother. So what if you've been to the gym and have some ink, blind girls are into that stuff. If you want a 1000 no one on here will give you a hard time about it. This is a friendly site with good people. Everyone on here secretly wants a GSXR1000 but are afraid they'll wet their pants riding one.

The real answer is, what kind of life insurance do you have?

wow, it can be done, just the stats are against him. Sweat washes off, road rash and scars, not so much.

plus the cool ink will get wrecked. One does not strap the Mona Lisa to your back and then go hot dogg'n.

Helmet is a must.

gloves and real shoes/boots almost as important

long pants and a shirt or hoodie to cover your knees and elbows, just about the same.

real jacket not a biker boyz wanna be clubbin jacket... important.

real track pants with pelvis, patella, and shin protection... good idea.

track sanctioned jacket with shoulder, elbow, and back protection... it you have the coin get it.

pneumatic spine armor. for long trips and track days.

one piece... luxury

this is how I roll to work most mornings... I have lost enough elbow skin, I have no extra. Gauntlet gloves are in the helmet. Any chick that doesn't think this is kewl... just don't want to talk to.

If he is going to do it just send him here.
Most everyone is "safety first" around here. Most important thing is getting the balance at low speed and not getting over your head(much easier in big bike.)

Dear Nick's Brother.

My friend, don't be a tool. Stop thinking with the small head and think with the big one.

A liter bike will kill or maim you faster than you can react. Yes, even you, 22 and at the top of your game. Yes, even if you're being careful. These are immensely powerful machines. You have no idea. You're talking 0-60 in less than three seconds, a bike that you can loop with the flick of a wrist and one able to stand on its nose with the pressure of two fingers on the brake lever.

This is not a f*cking joke and it is not a f*cking video game. This is real, serious sh*t. Take it from people who've been riding longer than you've been alive and lived to tell the tale. There's a reason we make fun of squids. It's because we know better.

Can you handle a bike like that with no experience? Maybe. Maybe not. That's for you to decide.

Do you need to start on a 250? Well, honestly, no. There's no rule that says so. Many of us did not. But many of us also discovered, after owning a bunch of bikes, how crazy-fun small bikes really are. Stuff that will kill you on a 1000 is a hoot and a half on a 250.

Can you afford it? Man, if I were 22 and able to afford the insurance that they're going to charge you to ride a GSXR1000, I sure as hell wouldn't be spending it on a motorcycle. But hey, maybe you're rich. Who knows?

Here's some truth:

- Sorry ladies, but in my experience most girls who don't ride themselves don't know the difference between a GSXR1000 and a Hyosung 250. If you find one who does know the difference, she's a real catch... she probably rides and is probably smart enough to wear gear.

- Most girls are not impressed by boy's toys. Especially the ones worth going after. They're going to be interested in you whether you have a big bike or not.

- A big bike does not make you a badass. Being able to ride well makes you a badass. Some of the most badass people you'll ever meet ride small bikes, ride them really well, and don't have anything to prove to anyone. They sure as hell don't own a bike to impress people. I know of one such person on this forum. I've met him and have enormous respect for the guy.

- Big sportbikes cost a lot. They cost a lot to insure. They cost a lot to buy. And since you can get in trouble with the law so easily (seriously -- you can break any speed limit you'll ever encounter in first gear without even trying hard), they will cost you a lot in fines, court fees, etc. etc. Spend the money on your date instead. She'll appreciate it more.

Listen to your little brother. He's smarter than you are.

if he wants those tattoos removed he should consider laser removal instead of pavement removal

my ex's first bike was a zx14. but he'd ridden other bikes before that one. never a liter bike though. since 2009 he's put 13000 miles on and never wrecked...

Chicks like a guy with a job and some common sense. Gay dudes, on the other hand... not that there's anything wrong with it...

unfortunately some need the sense knocked into them by the asphalt or a guard rail or a phone pole.

I've suggested that my children do not do certain things.
The alternative to their agreement with me was
Chaining you to radiator
Taking door off room
Throw you' ass outta house
No more tuition
You cant park that POS on the driveway
Nothing worked.
If anyone finds a way to discourage this young man...please detail your procedure and maybe we can sell it to AARP for a million dollars because discouraging an 18 year old seems impossible to those of us who've tried, tried and tried again.
