There is little in life worth doing that is easy, I've had endless problems with mine over the years as well (not just 250s/300s) and I've learned and grown so much because of it. Looking back I can't imagine wanting it to be easier because of the person who I have become as a result of my struggles

I do, however, have suspension properly sprung for rider weight. See below, allowed rim width is 3.5-4.0. Dot tires, good for street use.

I have many sets of these tires with 1 practice session and 1 race on them for $100 a set. Cheaper if you buy more. Great for the street as the centers are hardly used.

EVERY SINGLE ONE of us that have posted in this thread have had our fair share of issues over the years and know exactly how you feel now. It's exactly how many riders feel when the sun is shining and they can't ride.

Yes, michelin pilot Street is the street tire for this bike. 130/70 is the stock size and it is a wonderful tire.

if you just need a tire, there is a $64 shinko in 130/70 as well

Look at the similar threads box below this, every time i see tires discussed it's 140 70... That's what I would go with
What was the stock a 120 or 130 70?

Yea normally the tire website will have width size, but this one doesnt. stock is 130 70, but I dont like it being so "flickable" I hate it actually

If the stars align, you might get 15k miles or more out of that rear tire.

130/70 is the standard size made for this bike. It was literally designed by Michelin to perform well on the 250. 140/70 should fit.

Do what yourself? Remove the wheel from the bike? Mount the tire to the wheel and balance it? Replace the tire/wheel back onto the bike?

You might be able to find a shop locally that mounts tires to loose wheels pretty inexpensively. There are still shops near here that will do it for $25. You need to get the wheel off the bike, bring them the wheel & new tire, and they will mount/balance the new tire on the wheel (and dispose of the old tire). You then need to re-install the rear wheel back onto the bike.

Mounting the tire onto a wheel isn't trivial. It can be done very easily with the right tools, and it can be done somewhat less easily with lesser tools. No, it's not something that anyone can do themselves easily without some set of tools, strength, and knowledge to be able to mount the tire properly without damaging either the tire or wheel.

I can understand not wanting to pay ~$100 for a shop to uninstall/mount/balance/reinstall, but just getting the tire on the rim has always been worth it for me for them to do the fun part for $20 - $30. Some folks on this site who change their own tires more frequently have invested in tire changer machines. (search "no-mar" for a common brand). Even better than spending your own money for a tire changing machine, is finding a friend locally that may already have one.

You will not feel the difference between 130/140. It's a much larger difference between a new tire and a worn tire as the profile flattens out.

If you are that strapped for cash - the stock rear IRC 130/70-17 is $90 (listed in your first link). I've been on both 130s and 140s, haven't noticed any difference between the two.

I haven't read through this thread as it's just not anything I'm interested in - but going with the first post of taking it to a shop to have it done - do you have the tools to do a change yourself?

Rear stand to hold the bike up? Socket and wrench to remove the wheel? Spoons and whatever else is needed to get the tire off and back on? Wheel balancer thingy?

I've seen my tire changed over about a half dozen times now and have decided it is not a skill I am interested in knowing. Taking the wheel to a local shop and $25/wheel gets me a swapped and balanced tire. All I have to do is take it off the bike and put it back on.

Here is a short to the point post....

Buy the correct size tire for the bike, have it installed correctly, then ride.

DO NOT ride until it is fixed regardless of "wanting to" or pride.

https://www.jakewilson.com/p/1742/46...otorcycle-Tire is a couple bucks cheaper on the 130 too.

I doubt you'll notice a difference in flickability between a 130 and a 140 rear. The 140 may actually be a bit more pinched even, giving it a rounder profile. The flickability will depend much more on the front tire and front end setup.

The 140 should fit if you really want it, but it is a larger tire - 10mm wider and 14mm taller. The 130 ensures you'll have absolutely no fitment problems or handling weirdness due to different suspension measurements.

No! We learn through failure. It sucks, it's expensive, and it's tiring; but it always works. You'll get this thing fixed, you'll know in the future what questions to ask and what red flags to look for. Plus, once you take that damaged tire off, you can keep it somewhere because old tires make bases for setting down your tank when you take it off the bike and need to put it somewhere.

^^^this. For real though. Tires are a black box for me too. They just go on the bike and I don't want anything to do with changing them.

ZG360, it's totally okay to have black box items on your car or motorcycle now and again. For me, it's tires and transmissions.

Bro. I have a really expensive piece of paper from a lovely university that says that I'm qualified to be called "smart". (whatever actually being smart feels like, I'm not entirely sure... ) Wanna know what I've been fighting with for the last 2 months? A G-D bicycle of all things. I cannot, for the life of me, get it to stop creaking whenever I hit things on the trail. Seriously. Replaced every bearing, taken apart and cleaned and greased and reinstalled every part I can. Know what happens? creaky creaky creaky. It's something so simple, but it's kicking me squarely in the caboose.

ZG360, my point here is that it never goes right. You can be a master mechanic or a rocket scientist and you're still going to find something that kicks your butt once in a while. Take it as a good opportunity to learn something new! I know I can be a blunt instrument in conversations, as well as voicing a rude sense of humor at times and I know that maybe I've been a bit abrasive with you, but I don't want you to make bad decisions from being rushed and I really don't wish injury on you from riding a bad tire.

But the tire I was buying said the 140/70/17 version only fit a 4.0 rim. The 140/80/17 said it was for a 3.5 rim (ninja 250 size in the manual for the rear tire) So I searched this Forum and even google and NO ONE said anything about being careful about it rubbing the BACK of the swing arm so it never even crossed my mind. So what I did is went back to their website and made sure the width of the tire would fit. I took measurments of my old tire and made sure! So i DID do my research before buying this tire! It's not like I went out and just willy nilly bought a tire. I checked the measurements and everything! This is why I am so frustrated lol! I spend a lot of time trying to make sure this tire would fit and then this happens...
130/70/17 is the stock size, you failed to find anything referring to that?
The user manual that comes with the bike lists it, the label on the swingarm lists it.

You know what the numbers mean right?

130 width of the tyre in mm
70 hight as a percentage of width
17 diamater of rim

you went up a size in both width and height, you took away 21mm (~4/5 in) of clearance.

At least now anyone else thiniking the same will have some evidence of why not to & you've saved them a few quid

It sucks when you make a mistake and learn a lesson, but it a fact of life that these things do happen now and then.

Most everybody around here had a knee down pic at one time or another... On Kid toys, playground equipment, chairs, bikes, bout anything you can imagine... ethioKnight (that was one cool cat, but before my time, look for his scooter video!) may have started it, some still do it, it's always fun!
