Did you check to see if your friction disks are within spec? Try spinning the clutch basket and holding the clutch pressure plate with the transmission in gear. The pressure plate should spin without slipping.

Wow, I did not know this. The manual doesn't say anything about it as far as I know..... At least my Haynes doesn't!

Ok, the dots on the pressure plate were off by about 90 degrees. At least I learned something.
Now, Driving the bike I'm getting smoke out of the exhaust. New oil, new filter, oil level correct..... Is it normal when breaking an engine in?? Temp never broke 190F because of the cool weather......

A little smoke is normal from a new motor.
Glad you got the clutch issue fixed. |

A LITTLE smoke is normal. A steady plume is not. Are you sure its oil and not coolant?
So its either your head gasket leaking or your oil rings.

I'm positive it is oil. I know a little bit is burning off my exhaust because some spilled as I took the side clutch cover off, but the smoke out of the exhaust worries me.

If I doesn't go away in 100 miles or less, there is a problem. I only had smoke for one ride.

Smoke went away.
At a stop I saw coolant leaking down my radiator..... I think my head gasket is blown it got too dark to tell. That's what the noise is I believe.... It lags from a stop now too........

Normally it would still smoke with a blown head gasket...but not always. Are you losing a lot of coolant? Where is the leak exactly?

I felt around and I saw the coolant leaving from the radiators bottom mounting bracket so I still have to trace is back. The engine is making a strange robotic type noise so I'm leaning towards head gasket. Bike does run, not full compression in my opinion though

Don't run it like that. You could run out of coolant and warp the heads. A new gasket wont fix that. Only a machine shop can. Sounds like its time to pull the heads and check for level. Then re-assemble with a new gasket.
Is this the engine you bought or the original engine you put back together?

I should also point out that the temp gauge is not going to work right when the coolant is too low. It measures the coolant temperature and not the actual head temperature. If the coolant is too low and doesn't reach it, its not going to read right.

My vapor tech gauge won't put out a reading unless there is coolant passing over the sensor. Comes in handy!

I don't have a laser thermometer. I have the infrared kind. I think it was about 160-170F or something like that after a ride.

I'm gonna blow some air in there tomorrow and see what happens, as well as check my coolant level. I need to run a compression test as well maybe my engine is just acting this way because of the new rings + hone??? It is making a rattle noise like the cam chain is loose (which it isn't). But like I said I just did a valve adjustment there's a good reason it is making a lot of noise... Also, the head read at 170 F as well..... I shot all around the engine and the only thing higher than 200 was the exhaust.

One thing that did catch my eye was an empty thread on the cylinder head above & in between the header mounts.... Not the coolant drain bolt but above that about 4 inches or so.....

It can't be seen from the parts diagrams online so if you'd like I can take a pic tomorrow. It's just threads going into the cyllinder head above the coolant drain and inbetween and a little above the header mounts.

Best shot I could get with my phone.
2013-10-20 09.37.10.jpg And N4mwd, sorry the drain bolt is on the cylinder block, not head. You can see it in this pic too. The threads I'm talking about are above cylinder two's header.

Any ideas as to where the coolant seen leaking on the right side of the radiator bracket could be coming out of? I could only trace it back to the engine mounting bolt on the front of the engine...... Oh, and all the hoses are intact.

Perhaps you have a sliver of a leak in your radiator? Radiator cap not sealing properly? Leaking from coolant temp sensor?

Wrap toilet paper around the suspicious area of leak.
It may be a little pinhole tha leaks out only under pressure.

Meant to type I have no idea.... Not sure if that was my phone correcting or what.
Just ran the bike and noticed a drop of coolant on top of cyl 2 spark plug boot. Took gas tank off and ran bike but of course nothing happened in this time. Thermostats housing was all dry as well as all hoses. I think the radiator fan may be flinging it from the fins somewhere. Will a pressure test show radiator leaks? I can buy a used rad. Assembly for ~$50
