Hi All,

The weather is going to be excellent next week, so instead of the usual Azusa/GMR I'm going up ACH to enjoy the weather. This will be my first time riding my bike on ACH (drove my car on there a few times).

My plan is to ride up to Newcombs, eat, and head back down.

If anyone is new to ACH or canyon riding as a whole I am planning to ride the speed limit or less so don't feel intimidated.

This will be a great opportunity for new and experience riders to meet each other and ask questions etc.

If you decide to come PLEASE wear FULL gear. I'll be at the Shell gas station at 9:30am, and head out at 9:45am (I need to take a break before riding the 26.5 miles)

Shell Station:

Newcombs

Add yourself to the list if you plan to come.

Just came back from the Crest about 40 minutes ago. Absolutely gorgeous conditions albeit a bit cold. Roads are clear (for the most part), some loose gravel in places. There was NO ONE on the mountain...absolutely no one. Was the only person at Newcs

That said, I can't make it next Tuesday. This is my last week of time off from my work. Enjoy though!

I went with my friend Alex and met with ARc aka Jeff. It was a beautiful day today to ride! We passed by a couple of oncoming bikes on the way up, and we pretty much had the road to ourselves. The majority of the road was clean, with only a few spots of debris here and there.

I may start going to ACH more often now. Can't wait to do it again!

Took a couple of pics at Newcomb's

I love the ride out to Newcombs! And they have some great hot cocoa there if the ride was a bit nippy.

I just need to do more exploring out of state, but in time it will come... Here's a map with my motorcycle GPS tracks overlayed. This isn't completely up to date, but it gives the general idea:

Just move someplace where you can't see the ocean in all 4 compass directions from a single location and you may find some more interesting roads to explore.

Your plot makes me want to plan a NorCal trip via PCH/Hwy 1. Looks like you avoided I-5 in Central Cali. Didn't want to ride through the cattle farms adjacent to the freeway?

You should definitely plan something like that. The coast up and back is fun, but there are also a ton of fun roads going in and out from the coast all the way up. Ping me if you ever get something on the calendar and I might be able to make some suggestions.

I do I-5 often enough when I'm in a car going down to LA or SD, but rarely on a bike. Every time I do pass that huge ranch somewhere near King City (Harris Ranch), I am amazed at the miles and miles of cows, and no, they don't smell great. But the Harris Ranch resort about 15 miles east of there somehow turns those same cows into some pretty incredible steak dinners (and lunches, and even breakfasts! ).
