the little things
Sometimes it's just the little things that happen in life to make you smile.
Tonight for example. I as coming back from the gas station on the ninjette and pulled up to a light with an SUV next to me. I looked over and saw from the rolled down back window a little girl in a child seat wave to me. I couldn't help but wave back and smile to myself. A few of the adults saw our exchange and smiled too at how cute it was. |

I was at a stop light several months ago and could hear the passenger lady in the car beside me gabbing away. I don't think she took a breath the entire time the light was red. The driver, I am guessing her hubby, was staring at my bike with a longing look that had " I wish I had one of those right now" written all over it. The little things like the little girl waving can often times make up for a really bad day. nb

When I was still in GA I remember riding for miles behind a minivan or SUV of some kind with two little girls waving like crazy. Of course, I waved back, but it was tough to keep up the "conversation" the whole time.

Earlier last month....
Sitting and inching through a traffic backup on I-90, I had a little four-door economy box full of teen/early twenties guys pull up next to me. The guy in the passenger seat leans out and asks what displacement my bike is. I told him and he immediately tuns to the car's driver and shouts, "Pay me, douche-bag!" And while we all sat there in the traffic tie-up, the driver handed over a five.

Rule #32 Enjoy the little things. LOL
Having a sports bike is amazing (including the Ninjette). Yes you got those who hate you cause they've seen hooligans but many people show respect and a general interest. It seems like little kids love us. Every time I pass by a bunch they stare, if not wave or yell out cool bike. Some even came down the street on their bicycles to check out my parked bike. I was ready to chase them away but they actually didn't touch or sit on it, just marveled in it and left. Reminds me of a motorcycle commercial I LOVE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsLOKxraP0I

I agree...being an elementary school teacher who sometimes rides her bike to school, kids LOVE people on bikes! I get waved at at redlights all the time by yung'uns. It's quite cute and always makes me smile. I wonder how many of them will grow up and be riders themselves?

It's really nice when young folks look at you and give you that "I'm gonna do that when I get older". I also get a chuckle when I take off my helmet and they realize I'm as old as their grandparents and look a bit like Santa with my beard.

It is only natural to love Bikes. Kids love them. It's only when people brain wash them with statistics and fatality photos that bikes lose their appeal.
I love to see pure unadulterated honesty. Kids are a breath of fresh air.

Kids think bikes are cool...until they meet me...
Riding to work today a kid in the car ahead was leaning out the window and taking pictures of me...I guess deep down I ride a motorcycle because as a kid I thought "that's so cool" I'm following them for a few minutes, and he keeps leaning out the window with his camera pointed at me, so I pulled out mine and snapped a shot of him. He stuck a "thumbs up" out the window....nice moment, us pointing our cameras at each other... So on a straight-away just around the corner, they slowed down to let me pass--parents were at least some what cool, I guess...and I figured "oh what the hell, give the kid a listen to a high-revvin' ninja...wa-waaaaaa Pinned the throttle wide open in second to pass, and just as I got next to the kids wide-open window, and looked over to show him how cool moto-sickles are....and ....bounced it right off the rev limiter, (oops) kinda leaned forward into the sudden deceleration, (sh*t!!) clutched, shifted, and felt my head snap back as the bike jumped ahead, back in the powerband....about as ugly a shift as I could possibly manage.... I am so not cool.... |

I went for a couple hour ride outside of town and was driving by this mother teaching her kid how to ride a motorcycle. She gave me the peace sign and I did it back to her. I thought that was kind of sweet of her.
I mostly just get guys giving me the 'rev your bike' motion lol.
