Current Toy Box

I’ve been away from the forums for a bit, but I still lurk from time to time. My current stable consists of a 2014 Ninja 1000, 2015 ZX-6R, and mountain bikes. I’m hoping to add a dual sport bike in there sometime in 2021. I haven’t been on a track in several years and hope to remedy that this year as well. However, I did get out on the street for some social distancing in 2020, including a trip to the Smokies with my friend. I’ll keep coming around. I’m sure another ninjette will come home eventually I’ve had four over the years.

The Smokies are a blast. My daughter and I go there for a week every year and stay at Deals Gap. Nice motorcycles, and I'm a cyclist too. I ride every day to stay young and beautiful (age 63).

They really are. I first went on my motorcycle in 2015. I returned in 2017 and 2018 for mountain bike trips to Windrock, Knoxville, Cherokee, wind Cold Water Mountain. Another trip is on my mind this year if I can swing it. Does your daughter ride her own bike or with you? I’d love to introduce my daughter to riding with me when she’s old enough. Mom would have a fit though.

She rides my Ninja 250. I really got it to give her something to ride when she's up here from Raleigh. I'm usually on my 1972 H2, since we're attending the annual 2-stroke meet when we go. She's looking for a decent running and crummy looking pregen now, because it has to be kept in her apartment parking lot. She's 26 and been riding for about five years now and is pretty decent. Here she is on the Dragon:

That’s awesome! She looks like she knows what she’s doing. Did you have anything to do with her interest in riding or did she come by that on her own? Our daughter is three and has always had an interest in bicycles since we are a family of mountain bikers. She loves to ride her bike. I can only hope if my daughter develops the motorcycle bug, she’ll bring it to me and not mom.

My daughter always had an interest in bicycles and motorcycles, but both are probably my fault. It's great that yours loves to ride a bicycle. When mine was little we'd go for bike rides together, and when she was big enough I'd take her for rides on the back of my H2. Then when I picked up a 1976 Yamaha DT100 and made it into a mini-roadracer for the Dragon, she learned to ride it. That was about 6 years ago or so. She got her learners permit and we'd go for short rides around here on the country roads. When it was obvious that it was time to progress I picked up the little Ninja, and she took the NC license test on that. She loves to ride the 250 and now my MT-07, which to her surprise isn't too big for her. She likes long rides too. 150 miles is just getting her started.

Here's the Ninja I fixed up for her. It was a mess when I got it. It's almost done in this photo, but still needed some little stuff like turn signals. Also her on the DT100 back in 2016. That little thing is one of my favorite bikes too!

I finally added a dual sport to the stable back in June. There’s an entire other world to explore now. I’m sure there are those who would willingly take a sport bike off-road, but I’m not that guy. The next thing on my agenda is to tackle the TAT through Arkansas when the weather isn’t 1,000,000°F.
