Lee Parks Total Control

Got an opportunity to take the Lee Park's Total Control class this past weekend and what a great experience!

Even though everyone who has a motorcycle knows how to ride, many of us really don't know how to ride. Unfortunately the longer you've been a rider, the harder it'll be to get rid of your bad habits but it's definitely possible. Most of the people in my class were seasoned, experience riders and many of them were struggling with seemingly simple exercises, like gently rolling off the throttle while applying front brakes. Lee heavily focused on body positioning and honestly, mimicking what he was doing makes me feel a lot more in control of the bike when cornering.

Can't say that I'm already a better rider after the class but I definitely have a much better understanding of how what I do as a rider effects the motorcycle. Practice makes perfect and I'm looking forward to applying what I've learned in my day-to-day riding.

I would highly recommend this class to anyone looking to improve their riding skills

How much does a course like this run? What speeds were the exercises done at?

Don't know the price but it's a great value. The corse is all done at low speed in a parking lot. It is a direct link to a track day but definitely more advanced than the MSC. It teaches fundamentals. And bike set up. Gives you lots of lessons you can then go home and perfect. You will begin using everything you learn on the ride home.

Depending on location, the cost is $275-350. The highest speed we achieved was probably like 25-30mph. Doing the exercises would be much easier at higher speeds but that's the key - learn low speed control because if you can do it slow, you can do it fast.

I was working for an Aprilia dealer when I took the corse. Everyday I would test ride motorcycles and scooters. After taking the corse I was spending a lot of time doing tiny circles in the parking lot. I can now turn a full circle in two car parking spaces with a 1000 cc milli R. ( do not tell the customer)

It's fun and safe compared to most motorcycle stuff. You get to the point you just lay the bike over till you hit a hard point. Then just grind around in circles. Once you really understand counter steering it all makes sense.

Here's the deal. Motorcycle riding is not a natural thing. And people ask" why is counter steering so poorly explained?" Well the reasons is ,you can't use words. Motorcycle riding is something someone has to teach you. You need to learn how to ride properly. You don't just pick it up. What happens is. You make up bad habits then crash and blame the bike. Leave the ego behind and get an instructor. It will save you money injury and maybe your life.
