It's all relative. Average commute in the states is 30 miles each way, no public transportation infrastructure in place in the majority of areas so no alternative other than walking or bicycling. A person making minimum wage here tends to drive fairly old cars that get relatively poor mileage and live further away from employment centers because of housing costs. So, a person making $7.25/hour living 40 miles away from their job driving a car that gets 20 mpg and paying $4 for gas has to work nearly three full hours after taxes just to pay for the gas it took to get to work that day. That's before food, before rent, before daycare, before everything else. $4 doesn't seem like such a deal after all...

14,48 NOK per liter
1 gallon = 3,785 liters
14,48 NOK x 3,785 liters = 54,807 NOK/gallon
54,807 NOK = 10,26 USD/gallon

TLDR: I hate norwegian prices

Anyone see that Obama is looking into the oil companies to see if their pricing is "fair"? I remember Bush did this same very thing, but can't remember if any good came from it.

When Bush looked into it, he actually made them lower the prices. That's when we had such a big drop in gas prices. Can't recall how much but I know it was a big amount. Hopefully Obama can pull it off, but Bush also had his "hands" in the oil industry so he had more leverage then Obama does. BTW $3.99 a gallon here and I'm sure it'll be higher tomorrow.

Thumbs down

I don't see how politicians have much impact on pump prices.
We will see the pump price go down after we stop using.
$3.99/ gal. I'm an addict.

They don't, but the U.S gives the gas companies a massive tax break and they still raise gas prices to where people can't pay for gas. You woul think with us being the place that buys the most gas, we would get a "discount".

Oh it's now $4.15 here in Dayton. That is very expesive for this area.

Isn't our gas cheaper than other countries? At least from the posts above, it seems that way. This is the "discounted" price

I'm all for capitalism...

But honestly, they make billions in profit. They complain about small "profit margins", but $1 profit is still $1 profit... and profit is after ALL other expenses are dealt with.

Makes me laugh. I hate paying for high gas too - but the government makes more per gallon of gas in taxes than any oil company yet we have a failing infrastructure across the U.S.
Oil companies make around 7-8% profit, computer companies make about 15% profit, Google alone makes over 30% profit. "Beverage and Tobacco" make 20% profits.

Why not ask the government to either quit taking so much profit, or start using what they take for a better infrastructure instead of allowing them to hold these fake "investigations" which only cost more money but have never proven anything against anyone.
The base price of gas is actually quite similar between here and Europe and elsewhere, but Europe's government taxes it even well beyond what the U.S. does to feed their socialist needs in all the other non-transportation areas.
Gas around here is about $3.60 a gallon which is cheap for the U.S but still nails me everytime.

Wholesale fuel is down $.15 to $3.17. That should = $3.67 at the pump.
We might slip back below $4 in a couple weeks. lol
Oil and gas are taking a beating today.

I remember when the gas was like $0.85/gal. Once it hit $1/gal people were saying how expensive it was getting and they would sell their car for a scooter or something like that. These days 0.85 seems like nothing. Plus people are still driving their big trucks getting <10 mpg. lol
