15 miles on new bike = dead tach

I went around the block a few times tonight, pulled it in the garage and the tach is just sitting on zero. It was working fine up until I pulled up to my house. I checked the fuses (and hooked up a Battery Tender lead while I was at it). All the other gauges work fine, just the tach is dead. I want to start taking it apart and figure out what's wrong, but it's under warranty so I'll probably just putt down to the dealer and have them check it out.

I'm hoping it is something like that. But after some reading it looks like there are 3? connections it could be. Also could be a bad hmmm CPI?, or a dead tach. I'm great at computer stuff, but not much of a grease monkey. I don't even like taking the flimsy Mattel side covers off my bike. I'll schedule a day for the Stealership to look at it. That way I won't be without it for long.

Yeah I'd be up at the dealer. Weird issue though.

It's green, knowing it's the fastest color it has a ego. It's trying to lead you to believe "rev it to the moon" is not just a phrase, but a reality since it now has infinite RPMs.

I just took it out for another 15 miles. It all runs fine, just the tach is bad. Funny thing is I'm so used to a cruiser even with the tach I was kinda lugging it around at low RPMs. I think I'm reving it up quite a bit more with no tach. Nothing crazy yet, might be hitting 7k or so. Enough to break it in a little.

In this case, the stealership would be best. Just stay on them about you wanting it turned around in a decent amount of time, and once its resolved, what happened. I bought a new '08 years ago, and after 800 miles, I stopped to fill up. Used my key to open tank, filled up. Put key back in ignition, ignition wouldn't turn. Spent 3 hours trying to start bike, nothing. Had bike towed on flat bed to stealership, took them 3 weeks to give me answers. Only after I got Kawasaki involved. In the end, they told me 'the tumblers in the ignition wore out'. I was without my bike for 5 weeks in the summer of '08, and the stealership had the nerve to call me 'frugile' after I demanded to have the tow bill paid. Never, NEVER trust Middletown Cycle.
