so i was trying to accelerate quickly on my ride today..and I could speed up pretty well after third gear or so but, what's the gearing technique? do you run 1st gear up pretty high then start shifting or do you get to a certain gear before cranking it??

Watch the video in the first post.

The trick is the launch, then just **** gears at about 13,000 rpm until you get to 60mph actual speed.

i guess i'm just not used to revving the thing yet. i think that 4k is high lol but I guess i'll get used to the fact that it's really low on these bikes.

I pulled a flat 7 today, watch the video its the second run. my speedo is in km/h so when it hits 100 thats 0-60
I think i could pull faster once i get my jetting right. I need way less gas it bogs down when im below 8k

I rebuilt my carbs today, but I think I made my 0-60 times worse. I'm not super clear on the best approach to set the mixture screws. It had a lot of extra hang time until I rode it around a while.

When I rebuilt it, it still had the factory plugs in the mixture screw holes, but one carb had its mixture needle much farther into the venturi. To complicate things, I changed them out to new mixture screws, springs and seats - so the settings wont be identical.

I did find that the main jet on one side and the pilot jet on the other was partially blocked, so it wasn't a total waste of time. However, the idling is still unsteady. The idle on my friend's Ninja is rock solid which is what tipped me off.

I'm going riding today so we'll see if it works itself out. I think I'm going to ride for a few days before I play with the screws again.

Sounds like that 15:42 ratio is hurting your times.

It has a rough feel when it idles warm. When its cold it slowly dies down until it stalls. I have to use the choke or else it will stall when cold. When on the choke it sounds really crappy. The carbs are synced perfectly. I'm probably going to do the valves again in a month or two. I'll check to see if they have an issue.

I haven't done any new 0-60 runs since I rebuilt the carbs, but there isn't any noticeable performance loss.

have you tried playing with the idle mix when it's warm? 2.5 turns is just a starting place.

I haven't tried 0-60 yet, but a while ago I said I'd try for 100mph. Last weekend I made it! I had to tuck down, but she got there. The tach needle was just touching redline (13k). I was on a flat road when I did it with low wind that day.

nice @akima!

I just installed my Muzzy pipe and re-jetted. All I can say is wow what a difference! I really didn't think it would be so huge of a change from my slip-ons, but it really is! I'll try and get some more 0-60 tries tomorrow, and then again once I get my efi kit and it's all installed in a few weeks...

From what people have already said on this forum, I already assumed the pre-2008 ninjettes have a higher top speed.

If that's not the case, the only thing I can think of is that your bike isn't faster, but your speedo is less accurate. I think the FI 2008+ ninjettes use a different (possibly more accurate) way of measuring speed.

The pregen 250s have a massive speedo error. From what people have reported, it looks like they got more accurate on the 2011 models
