Smile Recent mods..

Hey guys, I just wanted to stop being lazy and finally post what I've done recently lol.
Why are these pics sideways? Sorry in advance

1. I bought and installed the throttle tube that fits the '03 - '05 R6. Click here if you wanna check it out. This one is the '03 -'05 R6 one and is about the same as the zip tie mod and requires 1/5 turn for WOT. The other one, which is '06 -'09, requires 1/6 turn for WOT, but costs more.

2. Cut the stock intake lid. Gotta love that intake growl..
intake lid mod.jpg

3. Shimmed the carb needles to two washers each. SAE #4 washers. These are bronze..does it matter?
jet needles.jpg

Here's a little video..I will make a better one soon..

Link to original page on YouTube.

I also made this to organize the bolts for the gas tank, but didn't really need em in the end hahaha..and sorry for the chicken scratch lol..
gas tank bolts.jpg

These three mods have made me glad that I did them! I love the sound and the fact that I don't have that 1/4 turn anymore. I'll add a lot more details later..

Throttle tube info

Intake lid info
carb shimming info

I have the same throttle. I think it's a big improvement. Did you have to modify anything on the accel cable for it to fit??

I had to cut around the housing a little bit because it was stretching the cable, which made it accelerate on its own. Its fine now, but it still pulls the cable a bit when I turn the steering all the way. Its my fault though; I used a pumpkin carver to cut around ahaahaha. Ill take some pictures when I get around to fixing it(with actual tools this time).

Oooo, I haven't come across a throttle tube mod before. Just the zip tie one.

Do they produce the same result or is one a little better?

The '03 - '05 R6 one is about the same as the zip tie mod and requires 1/5 turn for WOT. The other one, which is '06+, requires 1/6 turn for WOT, but costs more.

The throttle tube costs less than $10 and is fairly easy to install. I wouldn butcher my stock tube in case I want to change it back one day or use it on another bike.

Exact same reason why I did it, but hopefully the stock setting doesn't get screwed because of modded housing..

Update!

Alright people, here's the stuff I've done to the bike since my last post.

4. I switched the mirrors, so they face down. They are kind of like bar end mirrors, but don't stick out way past the bar ends. It's easier to split through vehicles.

5. Got the new-gen wheel and swingarm. Although the tire looked brand spankin new, it had cracks around the whole tire on both sides, rendering it useless. Well not really useless because I could have done some burnouts on it lol, but I didn’t think about it at the time. What a dummy! So I got new shoes and got them changed/balanced by Jason/rojoracing. Thank you very much!

6. Bought amber side pods for the tail light and integrated them. Will be taking off the oem signals soon.

I took apart the bike again to install WC lowered risers, the trail tech vapor, and other stuff.

To be continued...

I enjoyed reading that, keep it up man.

I think I may just do the extra brake light mod instead of the turn signals. Let me know how yours turn out.

thanks! I was thinking about doing that at first, but just ended up with amber ones lol. I'll probably add leds in the area for extra brake light. idk..

Before continuing, I just want to say thank you to this forum, especially @Alex and the ninja250 wiki guys! God bless all y'all.

7. Went and bought A&L rearset adjusters. I still have some grinding to do though. :/

The red line shows where the peg sat before the adjuster.

8. Installed WoodCraft Lowered risers. I don't know why, but was having clearance issues everywhere. So I turned all crazy and took apart the front and took the gauges off and installed the vapor lol.

9. Installed the trail tech vapor. It's still in beta mode because I wanna keep the analog tach as well. It will look crusty for a bit until I come up with something. Waiting on the speed sensor, because the one it came with sucked. The shift lights are pretty sikk!

10. Got them adjustable levers! pics coming..

I took it out for two very short rides on my street and it feels AWESOME! Can't wait until it's done, so I can go for a legit ride and feel the difference.

How interesting. We seem to be going down the same road on some of our mods

I enjoy my trail tech vapor but I have never been able to get anywhere near a reliable/consistent tach signal with it, so I was actually working out a way to run the oem tach alongside via a custom gauge housing. Did you have tach issues as well or just doing it because of how much easier it is to read an analog tach at speed?

In regards to the newer swing arm: I've been squirreling away parts from an 09 to do a front/rear suspension/brake conversion on my own 07, and I'm curious what you think of it with the second gen swing arm/wheel on yours?

I think the tach problem could be due to the resistors or where the connections were made. I decided to keep the analog tach before installing the vapor because I really like how it looks. That's good I kept it because it's quicker than the vapor.

The bike handles way better than before and it's all black. I don't really know why I did it anymore. Like what made me do it..haha. Make sure you're getting the stuff for legit prices.

aye, I work at a salvage company so thankfully prices aren't bad for parts. We got in an 09 with crash damage, and I took it for a ride before the tear down and then started looking at the fork and swing arm thinking "Hmm, I bet this would fit..."

I don't like how limited tire selection is on the standard EX-F's 16" wheels, so when I heard that it would all more or less swap over, and give me a wider selection of tires like the BT-003 without too much of an increase in width, I was sold. I haven't met many people that have done it, so I'm eager to hear feedback from someone that has. thanks!

Oh, nice..you have access to back up parts all the time then!!

Tire selection is one of the main reasons why people have done the swap. You have the option to get radials too. You should totally go for it. Make sure you clean and lube the pivot bolt before installing. Document the whole thing and share it with us!

Moar pics!

10. Here are the pics of the foldable/extendable/adjustable levers. I got them black with blue adjusters. I bought them off of ebay from china. The seller was real nice and got them shipped out here quick .

11. Also got the pro grip grips! They feel a lot better than the stock ones. I was about to get the ones with the blue inserts, but went with all black instead. You can see it in the pic above.

I also added the pictures of the rearset adjusters above in an earlier post.

It's amazing the difference new levers makes, isn't it? I went the OEM ex500 route just for the adjustability, and even that made a huge difference.

All black was probably the best choice. I'd imagine any colored inserts would start to get dirty pretty fast.

Yea, there's a big difference. An adjustable lever is the way to go, regardless of what it looks like.

Thanks. I didn't think about it getting dirty lol. It would have looked like I was doing too much too haha..

levers adjustable huh.. can do that later

but, question about the shock. You used the new gen shock b/c its better or b/c the old was too short?

also, I hear some guys "raise the rear" a bit. I believe it is mostly for clearance. did you do this? Trying to see what mods I can do at the same time as the 17 Rim changes that dont hit the pocket that much.

I used the new-gen shock because it was adjustable and it was necessary in order to do the swingarm arm swap.

I don't think the rear has to be raised, but it would help. It causes the bike to handle differently and it sometimes makes the bike look better, as long as you don't raise it too much.

2015 update

I was able to finish by Friday night and take her on a Valentine's day ride..lol. She felt awesome, but I know there's still some tuning left.

12. Installed All Balls steering bearings. Went according to faq site and got some help from here. No pics lol..should've had them side by side.

13. Did the research and got .70kg/mm Sonic Springs as well as 15w oil. I kinda forgot about exact details, but I think fork oil was set at 115mm and the spacer was 110mm. Can't really take a picture of this mod, so here are the goods..

14. I got Apex brake lines from a GB here like two years ago..lol. I finally installed the front line. I believe there is still some air in the line, so will try to pump it out soon. It’s a lot better than the old one though!! It grabs faster, longer, and gives more feedback.

15. Shimmed the cush drive. Cut a million pieces out of multiple milk gallons and used two for each crevice. It’s a lot smoother now.

16. Bought a ninja 300 hugger/chain guard from rebecca..thanks! Since I have the newgen swingarm, there are only two places to bolt it in. It’s not secure, but it’s not going anywhere.

17. Installed bigger and better fuel filter!

I think that's about it..

Oh yea..and maintenance wise:

Lubed the clutch cable. Greased the rear wheel spacers, the sprocket bearing area, and the axle. cleaned/lubed the chain.

Still got plenty to do, like...

get the front wheel painted.

DIY front turn signals.

build rear brake setup.

+ way more

Ended up riding without the rear brake for a while and eventually warped the front rotor, I believe. LOL. I purchased a replacement front rotor but never installed it. Bike had been sitting since. In the mean time I slowly purchased parts to complete the new gen front end swap. I've been finally knocking things off the to-do list for this bike! So excited!

Question. Can I use my pre-gen MC with the new-gen Caliper? And will a SS brake line for either bike work?
