Wanton destruction

Okay it's a British tower block but this happens across America also. What a waste! 100 homes just trashed by the council. These blocks (4 of them) are younger than I am!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-31789174

The council guy tries to justify it by saying 'the people asked for it', but that just doesn't make sense.
You can't help consider who benefits from the multi million pound costs of the contracts to build the 400 new homes (and who has to pay it) grrr
http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/week-...ail/story.html
"Cllr Black said the blocks provided an answer to a housing shortage in the 1960s."
Well let me explain Cllr Black, there is a far worse housing shortage now than there was in the 1960s! The population is up 23% since then.
It just wrong, utterly wrong and should be investigated

"'Even if we had refurbished the blocks, only a certain clientele would wish to take them.'

'Most families want brick-built, traditional houses.'"

Bass Ackwards. Just go out and be honest: "We think there are poor people and crackheads around and we don't want that."

The other side of the coin, here is the smokey voiced Mariella Frostrup discussing the Brit housing crisis.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-31762127

What is the situation for young people trying to buy in the US? Are they forced into a life of renting or are house prices still the right side of sane?

You are supported by your parents, or you work your ass off for a mediocre apartment, or you move to a state with a lower cost of living. Whether you rent or save depends on the area, job security/mobility, etc.

Depends on where you are and how picky... You can find cheap or way overpriced homes most anywhere
