Tires not available anymore?

Calling everywhere. Looking everywhere online. There seems to be no tires available. I was told a lot of the 16inch rim tires are getting discontinued/phased out. Running Pirelli Sport Demons right now but those are confirmed discontinued and can’t find them in stock. Any recommendations for a good sticky tire? Three tires I was recommended were Shinko 777, Metzeler Cruisetec, and Michelin Commander 3. Don’t know anything about them.

I run Michelin City Grip 2s; marginally easier to locate as they're scooter tires. I do run a skinny 120 on the rear... they used to offer the stock size 130 but that seems to be unavailable now. I like the 120 though.

Shop didn’t hassle you about the size? I read that it feels better on turns than the 130. But shop I talked to said they probably won’t install it for me. My friend said it’s a pain to put it on. Did you ever run SDs before to compare with these? I push this bike so looking for a good performance tire. And all these tires I’m getting recommended are cruiser tires lol

I install my own tires and these were incredibly easy to spoon on. Little tires like these are a piece of cake compared to big 180s and the like. I think the bead seated with about 40-50psi.

Those Shinkos look even better for being so cheap, plus the 130 would be nice to try again. The City Grips live up to their name; they certainly hold up when pushed, but I get some squat on that little 120 rear. Other than that I have no complaints.

Thanks for these. I might order them. I just purchased my ninja about two weeks ago. I did the usual checks but was pretty excited. Rode 100 miles home on it as it mechanically checked out.

I got home and was like hey I didn't check the date code on these tires...

They were born in 2013

Ninja 250 wiki states "consider cost of replacement if older than 3 years old."

I am not tire expert but I see no dry rot... but they are 9 years old. I hate to admit it but is it time to replace?

eh, condition is more important than date. There are 1-yr old tires with cracks that should be replaced. I used up BT45s on my new-gen commuter with 2009 date-code last year without any issues (16k-miles!). Pretty much all tyre manufacturers give 10-yr lifespan on tyres. No one has been able to track down credible source for 3-5yr replacement theme. Some suspect it's tyre shoppes and dealers that started this rumour to sell more tyres (kinda like 3000-mile oil changes). Modern silica-based tyres are much, much more durable and don't age like tyres from before 1990s

Wish I saw this earlier. Ended up finding a Sport Demon in Florida. Shipped here to Cali. But no discount on price and it ran me 240. 30 shipping. My experience/discussions with Shinkos were always bad so I always stayed away lol. But one of my friends did say they’ve improved over the years.

I'm running a Pirelli Angel Scooter in the rear and I have no complaints.
