I hope it's flattening out due to closing restaurants and bars and increasing social distancing on 3/16 (although official lock-down started today).

Ohio today:
704 cases (up 24.8% since yesterday)
11 deaths (up 37.5% since yesterday, includes the 1 death Snot reported last night in today's percentage)
0 recoveries (to date)
The problem with all these reports of numbers of infected cases is that it's really just a report of the number of tests available. There's still a severe shortage of tests, and the majority of people who report symptoms aren't going to get a test unless they are really sick.

In fact, some people are getting coronavirus, confining themselves to their homes, and letting it pass without telling anyone, just to avoid the stigma of it affecting their families. Case in point: a guy in a nearby town had his mom get it. Hadn't been in the same room with his mom in 6 months. Yet when he told his employer they told him to stay home. Think about it. If you get what might be coronavirus and your symptoms aren't bad, there might be a benefit to just self isolate and not tell anyone about it just to protect your family and friends from BS.

Total number of infected is likely 10x what is reported, and while there is no error in the number of reported deaths, the calculated mortality rate is based on the number of infected, which is held back by the number of tests given. The real mortality rate is likely far less than 1%. I would bet it's more along the lines of .5 to .3%, just to swag a number.

Washington today:
3700 cases (up 493 since yesterday)
175 deaths (up 28 since yesterday)
19 recoveries (to date)

Ohio today:
1137 cases (up 270 since yesterday)
19 deaths (up 4 since yesterday)
0 recoveries (to date)

U of W suggests Washington's death-per-day peak right around 4/21 (at appx. 27 deaths per day) IF social distancing is maintained through early June. June? Holy crap! That's a long time for 30% unemployment!

U of W predicts Ohio's peak to occur sometime between 4/7 and 4/21.

Age, medical, climate... Not an equal comparison.

Ohio is still eating out. We went from less than 4k on unemployment to over 180k in a week. They made loop holes to work and file to get more money.

They also cut daycares to 6 kids per room and must have pandemic license. So, now healthcare workers are unable to work due to lack of childcare (not enough for all of them)

Oh well, nothing I can do. I plan to do what I must and try to not lose my house or mind.

We are not counting recoveries, it was brought up today. So, not sure how that will effect total US numbers.

Released 300 inmates. Crime is going up (not related?)

Dayton ohio is one of the countries worst drug trafficking areas.

It seems crime has fallen here. On the local Nextdoor app, I've seen one truck theft (recovered) and one camping trailer theft (still missing) over the last couple weeks.

Home burglars are screwed, because most people are at home. I haven't talked with any drug dealers lately, because the taverns are closed.

1 burglary ended in 1 woman dead. Another woman unrelated was found shot in the head on the sidewalk. 2 males 19 shot and killed all in 24 hours. 1 woman abducted and raped on the bike path. Jeep stolen and hit a car head on, and SUV stolen crashed into a house. People at the store having groceries stolen as they come out. Major drug bust 10 miles north of me. Man arrested for child stuff on computer... And we keep releasing inmates and are not pursuing minor crimes.
That is what is reported. I am sure there area areas that are seeing even more.

On a funny note:

A semi-truck going down Interstate 49 was stopped and searched. Inside they found toilet paper hidden inside bags of cocaine. The toilet paper was confiscated and they were allowed to leave with cocaine.

I found TP today, limit 1 per customer. So, I bought one and then went back and got another one for my dad. No need for him to go out.

I binge watched that whole series a couple months ago. It is really good. Shows what is going on behind the scenes to try and find better vaccines and get us more prepared for something like covid-19.

I wish they would report our recoveries, or at least how many are released from the hospital. Otherwise, it appears if you get it in Ohio you never recover.

Many have been release and have recovered.

Yeah the number reports are garbage.

They won't test anyone around here unless you are old.

There's a good chance that the "recovery" stat is time-based. I.E., there might be some length of time where a confirmed case has to be out of the hospital without returning before they can be considered "recovered". This means there's probably some lag on that number. Give it time. (someone correct me if I'm wrong on those last 4 sentences)

My other thought;

The two options are either:
1) you die of it
2) you survive ("recover")
...and those are mutually exclusive, right? As far as I'm aware, mutually exclusive outcomes are complimentary. So it doesn't matter if you actually track the "recoveries", if track the deaths and subtract them from the total number of confirmed cases and you have the recoveries. That's a fairly simple process after all this is said and done that doesn't require manpower for following up with every patient.

I am originally from California and have family there. With as large as the population is I was pleasantly surprised that numbers are relatively low.

COVID-19 cases in California

Chart
5655
Number of confirmed cases in the state of California
120
Number of deaths related to the coronavirus in California

I like to watch NASCAR racing. Due to the virus, like other sports, the season has been canceled. I turn the tv on and what do I see? Simulated NASCAR racing on a platform called Iracing. The drivers are safely at home in their man caves racing on simulators with 40 other drivers. Very interesting.

Washington today:
4483 cases (up 173 since yesterday)
200 deaths (up 11 since yesterday)
19 recoveries (to date)

Ohio today:
1653 cases (up 247 since yesterday)
29 deaths (up 4 since yesterday)
0 recoveries (to date)

Woo hoo! WA dropped to 8th place for cases (probably because we're not testing enough), but still #2 for death count.

Stay safe, Ninjetteers!

According the the state website my county still only has 2 cases, and the county just North of us still only has 1 after several days of confirming the 1st case.

Seems totally reliable

No one recovers in Ohio, you get it for life....

I do wish they would update how many are in the hospital vs. Admitted during the duration. Otherwise it will appear as if no one ever leaves the hospital.

Louisiana residents have been told by Texas that if we cross the border we will be ordered to self quarantine for 14 days.
Since the Louisiana governor has asked everyone to stay at home unless you have an essential job or have to go out for groceries I really can’t blame the Texas governor for trying to keep his residents safe.

Statistical fluke? Or maybe that snake, Gov. Inslee's, early 3/16 restaurant/bar shutdown is flattening the death curve. We'll see...
Pushed schools out until May 1st in Ohio. They are not sure how to help the students who do not have internet access yet.

They are still not counting recovered and have no plans on doing so. They also said testing is inconsistent, some test are taking a few hours others a week so they are not getting the correct new daily numbers.

Ohio is also the first approved to sterilize mask... 80k a day.

The more and more i read about symptoms, and we are finding out for certain that some places had the virus weeks before the state had a single confirmed case i am leaning more and more towards that my family could have had it in Early March. Far too many "coincidences" to ignore.

Not sure if any of us would still test positive or not? Or if they would test any of us?

Not sure if any of us would still test positive or not? Or if they would test any of us?
I think it depends on the type of test. The ones looking for antibodies should pick something like that up, as it's expected the antibodies would have been created while we were sick and are detectable for a very long time.

We are suspicious that we crossed paths with it earlier as well, with the fever/coughing/shortness of breath etc., but it was diagnosed as a sinus infection and it did go away over time. Genetic testing shows that it was in our county by early January, and several in the household were sick in early February.

But I imagine there's millions of people thinking the same thing right now. Some of them may be right - but it's also helpful to remember that millions upon millions of us do get sick at times, including many of the symptoms of a minor COVID-19 case. If we're better now, it doesn't matter terribly, other than a higher likelihood that for us personally, we're at lower risk of catching this same thing as it circles around this area over and over again.

I don't think there will be widespread/universal testing either soon, or maybe even ever, to try and find out if everybody had it at one point. I do think there will be population studies to get more data and then make inferences from there; that's pretty much one of the reasons public health exists for.

As of 6:35 PDT...

Washington today:
5482 cases (up 232 since COB yesterday)
225 deaths (up 14 since COB yesterday)

Ohio today:
2199 cases (up 266 since COB yesterday)
55 deaths (up 16 since COB yesterday

WA has dropped to #6 in deaths and closed at #8 in positive cases: the curve appears to be flattening. Looks like closing schools, bars, and restaurants on 3/16 is having a meaningful effect!

Interesting fact in my area... They forced Hobby Lobby to close, but are opening the golf course.... How is golf essential and hobby lobby isn't?
Neither are.

So, they are now (finally) mandating the hospitals to use labs that can/will process results within a day or 2. The numbers will be closer to real time new cases instead of lagging test and quick test adding to daily numbers.

Well maybe they just did that because golf is a game you can play while practicing social distancing.

Here in Wisconsin, all the state parks are open and free too. Services are shut down but hiking trails are open for people to get outside and enjoy nature. And it's generally spacious enough to practice good social distancing.

Essential buisness only in Ohio. If golf is essential (carts allow multi people to ride together), then landscapers are too. But, they were also told No. No to parks unless it's golf.

We are also now limited on how many can be in a store at a time, the rest wait outside in the elements... This includes elderly and high risk.

In Wisconsin it's just essential businesses too. But the state parks remain open. I can definitely understand anything spacious and outdoors still being open. Though I would expect them to not allow golf carts and make people walk so they stayed apart.

Most of our stores have elderly hour for 1 hour before the general public is allowed in. I think that's pretty cool, though from what I hear it's super crowded with old folks.

Here's a fun fact.
Miami Co. Oh
62 positive
6 dead
44 positive are from 2 nursing homes
All 6 deaths are from the same 2 nursing homes.

It spread like wildfire in one of the homes, once it was contained it stopped. No new cases in the homes.

Prettydaughter #2, the flight attendant, yesterday had 5 passengers going one way, 2 passengers the other.

The airlines are getting hammered! But so is everyone else.

Any thoughts about what to invest in right now?
