I've got my fairings off, what should I do while I'm in here?
Now that it's warm, I'm finally getting around to installing the heated grips my wonderful fiance got me for Christmas (makes sense, eh?) and I'm wondering if there are any general maintenance tasks or cheap upgrades you'd recommend I do while I've got the fairings off.
On my list already are a few things that don't really require the fairings to come off, including an oil change + pickup screen cleaning and replacing a disintegrated clutch cable boot. Thinking about grabbing a battery tender, but my battery has held up like a champ without one and it just doesn't get that cold down here. So, any suggestions?

Ah yes, forgot to add that. I'm only at ~4500 miles (don't judge :P), so I can't think of any major maintenance that needs to occur like a valve adjustment or anything.

Coolant flush should do it then.
Check the air filter. Check for leaks. Give your plug caps a quick push to be sure they're seated fully. Flush your brake fluid! This way if you spill any from the front it won't get on the fairings.

Clean and add a drop of grease to the bushings the plastics snaps into.

Go on instagram and make a million posts "hay guise i have a motorcycle xD #wrenching #diy #giftfromgod #mechanic"
Really though. Go on Instagram and look at motorcycle posts and you'll eventually see someone changing their oil who thinks they're hot ****. |

How often should the coolant be changed? I could be wrong but doesn't some coolants have long interval changes?

Depends on the coolant. Engine Ice, for example, recommends yearly changes. The Ninja 300 manual is 3 years or 36,000 kms. In my opinion, it's such an easy thing to do that you might as well do it regularly.
