I've never seen a gladius in person either, guess the dealers are too busy stocking gixxers I do like the Vstrom though, the new 2012's look really nice and goddamn, the Versys and the Vstrom are some of the most comfortable bikes I've ever sat on. Just too big to be practical for what I do... maybe one day...

I believe I had a sport bike comparo with the Gladius vs the ER6N (same basic package as Versys but shorter suspension stroke) and the 6N won hands down in both the Sport Rider comparo and the Motorcyclist comparo, I would have to look back to see what the issues were.
If it were me though it would be 650R>Versys and SV650>Gladius anyways. Just IMHO. |

Besides, the Vstrom is cooler anyway

You're comparing what is essentially a dual-sport to a naked bike.
The closer comparison would be the Er-6n and the Gladius. |

As to direct comparison of the Versys and the Gladius, I agree previous poster, the ER-6N is a better match. The more direct comparison from Suzuki is the V-Strom. But if you are going to compare to the Gladius, the Versys has better components. It suspension is better for spirited riding, lets you adjust rebound and preload on the suspension. The Gladius does not. The Versys also offers better brake components. And while a couple of HP shy of the Gladius, the Versys matches in acceleration numbers, probably because the Gladius is tweaked for low range, slow speed work of the naked bike stunting crowd. Blech. However, it is a small V-Twin, which means you don't have the vibrations of the Versys parallel twin and the sound might be more to some's liking. Personally, I'll take the bike with the better suspension and brake components when the engines perform the same.
The Versys is a great bike, and has been past bike of the year by Motorcyclist Magazine. Outside of this thread, the Versys gets rave reviews, regularly winning comparisons against the 650 V-Strom and BMW competitors in the 650cc adventure touring category. MCN says the Versys is "considerably more agile" than the competition, "makes B road riding a joy, and does everything else the other two bikes do as well." Yes, it is vibey - it is a parallel twin. I only have ridden a few miles on one, but I found it comfortable and really fun to ride. Probably will be my next bike.

The Versys is not a dual sport, and the engine in the Gladius is quite awesome. That blue one is awful, this is the nice one:
