Location, location, location

So you can often hear me complaining about my small town that I live in. Especially if I wan't to enjoy a nice craft brew on tap, or do anything other than eat at Applebees. But what I fail to realize sometimes is that I am in one of the best places in the world for riding(in my opinion, of course). US 129 "The dragon"-2 hrs from my driveway, US 421 "The Snake"-1.5 hours from my driveway, NC Hwy 80 "The devil's whip"-less than two hours away...and countless other amazing roads. And honestly I stay away from most of those unless its during the week, but I have yet to run out of fun twisties to ride. So my question is, is there any place better? I'm thinking somewhere in Cali maybe, that I could ride good roads all year and not have to deal with old man winter. What say you? Where is the best place to live/ride?

Where are you located?

I love your area for riding, between TN, NGA, AND NC/SC it's an awesome place to ride. I go to Tellico Plains every year since 2007

I'm about an hour and a half north east of Tellico Plains. I am lucky that one of my riding buddies owns a package store and stocks lots of good beers, but its nice to go out and have a draft every now and then.

That's cool. Always nice to have an inside man!

They are always better in a pint! Lol

I think we will hit up a brewery or 2 in Knoxville on our way in.

I'm very lucky that I live in a great state for beer, with a bunch of places with good taps

You, and any forum members need to come and hang with me for a few days here in South Central Bluegrass, got a lot of roads in any style you wish, plus I'm about 45 mins from Bowling Green, home of Western Kentucky University, General Motors Corvette Assembly Plant, National Corvette Museum, and Motorsports park, etc.....

Lots of local watering holes too.

If that's not good enough, another hour we can be in Nashville.

Or we can do the Bourbon Trail, which is an awesome time, riding nothing but back roads.

AND if you complete the passport you get a free t-shirt, http://kybourbontrail.com/map/kentuc...rail-passport/

I always leave a light on for all forum members, and I have an awesome couch.

For me, I don't think it has anything to do with the city you live in. Just riding, period is fun to me. I don't like city riding, so I venture out of the city and explore. There's all kinds of places to ride around for me and the weather, for the most part is ideal for riding.

The thing with popular riding locations is that they are often overcrowded, with other bikers or tourists alike, which is not my cup of tea. I love finding places that hardly anyone knows about, whether it's riding or traveling. The less people that know about a particular place, the better it is for me. Crowds are annoying because people end up in your way, are usually obnoxious, inconsiderate, don't pay attention and just make it unenjoyable. I like to call the places people hardly know about, "hidden gems" and finding those are a real treasure.

I agree with the popular places, too many people, cops, and squids make it not enjoyable, can't relax and enjoy the ride, when you have to worry about some squid crossing over the double yellow, etc...... Seen too many of those.

I spent many a night at Mellow Mushroom, enough that they know my name!

I went to Nashville one weekend and checked out all of the breweries. I slept in my car that night lol

I spent most of my summer traveling to and from The corvette plant, and I wished I had a bike so many times, the roads looks wonderful around there.

Unfortunately twisties usually go hand in hand with mountains and since those are weather collectors, the only place that would be geographically possible on a temperate latitude would be a coastal mountainous state. So Cali...

However, further south outside the US I'm sure there is plenty of good year-round riding... I've always wanted to go down to the Baja, but that's not at all related to twistys, more adventure touring...

Southern US is probably the only place you'll not have to deal with old man winter if you want to stay in this country, but if our winters keep up the way they have been, anywhere along the Sierra may end up being year round riding before to long.

I may be biased, but this is heaven and the joy is there is very little if any traffic to deal with (with the exception of Hwy 49, that oddly isn't on this map).

I could deal with that
I just have to wait for my gf to finish graduate school, which is a long longer away than I would like it to be. But in the mean time I'll just keep enjoying my twisties I have around me and heading out of town for my pints
