millionth break in thread

Where to start? Got 60 miles on the ninja now. I try to keep it under 4k RPM a few times went as high as 6K. This is killing me. I did see many different opinions on this, however what have you guys done? I mean 1000 miles is along time to be doing this. Maybe I am turning this into a rant thread....

I haven't got a new bike lately but when I do I plan on using the motoman quick flogging break in. It makes good sense.

The general consensus:

Your decision. Don't red-line it, don't hold it at the same revs for too long, and change the oil at least 4 times before you hit 1k miles, with your first being around 50 miles. I'm changing mine 6 times.

Ok I see the point of changing the oil to get the small metal shavings ect associated with a new engine. The Motoman break in is it too late to start since I am 60 miles in? Thanks

Actually, if you change it less than 25 times before you hit 1000 miles it means you hate your bike.

/thread moved to new-gen tech.

(P.S. I'm kidding, and like poking fun at those who change their oil more often than they change their underwear)

didn't do a break in after 100 miles...only did 3 oil changes before 1k..got 3027 now..no issues and pulls on modified and tuned bikes...and i;m a fat ass.

production engines these days are amazing. all your really doing is setting the rings, which is main reason you get shavings.

rock it and change the oil.

Just finished about a 10 mile ride. I am really trying to keep it under 4K. So does that mean to cruise in like 3rd gear the whole time?

Just ride it. Don't hold it at redline for long periods but go ahead and goose it some My break in periods are usually the ride home from the dealer. I do an oil drain after the first few miles, no filter change. New oil and filter after 1000-ish miles then regular oil services every 3500 or so.

Just ride it normally. I did, and just passed 15,000. No problems.

Ha, that's funny. I mean really? Our Mini gets its first oil change at 15K (or one year) and that is the first one. I know its a car but still....

Change it in the dealer parking lot, then at the first stopllight (don't do the filter there as the light turns green quickly), once home disassemble the whole engine and remove all shavings. Reassemble fill with oil, start it for 3 minutes and change oil one las time. Ride bike for 300 miles, sell it and get a 600. Repeat oil changes. Ride it 500 miles, sell it and get liter bike. Repeat oil changes. Ride it one season. Sell it and get a busa or ZX14 or Harley. Sell bike due to the high cost of oil changes.

Forgot to say find out what boat your bikes crate is on. Pay a ships hand to uncrate it and do an oil change on the way over the ocean. My first oil change had metal shavings, soda can tab, and a spent 9mm shell in the oil.
