Exhaust hanger needed?

I'm planning to order the MGP Growler Slip-on Exhaust and I wondered if I would need a new exhaust hanger or will the stock one work? Searched the site for a while and couldn't come up with an answer, although it's probably out there...

you shoould make it yourself buy some sheet metal, trace a template with cardboard, then cut the sheet metal with snips or a dremel or grinder or something. sand/file edges smooth and paint it to match your color scheme. cost: $10, satisfaction: priceless.

i have a mgp growler. You do not need anything else, the stock hanger will attach to it just fine.

Though if you do take off your passanger rear pegs you will need a new hanger obviously

That is a pretty good price for the Danmoto, obiviously. I didn't like the look of it before, but it is growing on me...

Another Question: Everyone that says they have installed a new exhaust slip-on says they needed to shim the needles after. Is that really necessary? Shimming the needles is meant to increase gas mileage, correct? Seems like the bike gets such amazing mileage I would never even notice!

na itll work opposite. Shimming richens the mixture. So you will get worse gas millage.

I rode around with my mgp growler for about 2 weeks w/o shimming the needles. It rode rough at low speeds, and would gurgle and pop and make horrible cracking noises when I let off the throttle or rode at slow speeds.

After I shimmed 2x 3mm washers on each needle the bike ran way more smoother and sounds way better.

You will lose mpg though. By shimming the needles youre allowing more gas to go through the carbs.

edit: imo the mgp growler looks way cooler then the dan moto

Ohhh I see how it works. So, wouldn't having your bike re-jetted really be a better solution?

I see. I was planning on having the bike re-jetted before Spring this year anyhow so I will probably just stick with that, but I'm glad I understand the whole shimming thing now!

Thank you guys!

Making any changes to the amount of fuel the carburetors deliver is jetting. People seem to think it's only re-jetting if they physically change the main jets.

Not to mention the only difference between buying a jet kit vs buying new main jets and then shimming the needles is a) price and b) the taper of the needles, which is under debate as to the actual effectiveness and if that, where the effectiveness is in the rpm band/throttle input range.

The reason most of us can get by with just shimming our needles out a little is because the oem main jets are huge, and the top end is rich, but the midrange (under control of the needles) is lean. Soooo when you make intake/exhaust changes, the main jets are still ok, and the needles need to be shimmed out because the changes we just made caused the whole range to be a little more lean than it was, which means the midrange is also more lean than it was. Shimming richens the mixture in the midrange.

Make sense?

Ah ha. Okay. Good to know. Maybe I'll just shim the needles then. I was going to get new jets, but maybe now I wont. Something to chew on anyway... Thank you for further educating me.

I don't think I'll be getting rid of my passenger pegs, but I'll keep that in mind in case I change my mind. Thanks!

But let me also be clear, if you make any huge changes, like full exhaust and a airbox delete, you need to get different main jets.

For a slip-on, you'll be fine with just shimming.

Justin, when you get them, humor me and add a washer. You'll notice a difference.
