Helmet visors

Hey fellas, well I bought this helmet:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/120746959460...ht_3401wt_1163
and I sent a message to the seller about that I want a tinted visor to buy separately and he told me they didn't ahve any for that model.. uhh
any other options perhaps ? do you know any visors which are compatible or something ?

Cheers mates

My tinted visor cost more than that helmet.

But as far as I know, visors are helmet specific.

Cheap helmet, but if you look in the Ebay ad, it has its model number (JX-A5007). Here is a tinted shield that should fit.

http://buy4ride.com/product/tinted-m...a500550025007/

and here is a smoked one:

http://buy4ride.com/product/smoke-re...0055002-smoke/

You should really get a better quality helmet though.

Lighter, quieter, more comfortable...etc.

Just remember, it's your brain that you're protecting.

I bet you could get a hollowed out ham to pass the DOT tests. IIRC the DOT test is only at 35mph and hasnt been updated in 40 years. Most pass/fail certification systems are similar although afaik every other country has higher standards for what will pass. My helmet is certified by 4-5 different groups, one of them being DOT, my guess is that it will perform better than a DOT only sub-$50 helmet.

SHARP (UK) has 5 levels, if its level 1 you know it is at least level 1 but not more than level 2. You can then rank helmets that would otherwise pass a certification level but may be better. They dont test every helmet though but they do test many.
Sweeeet, thanks for the link dude! My helmet got 4 stars...

I got mine for only $80 and it's DOT approved and has the ECE 22.05 standard meaning that the helmet had to be crash tested before leaving the factory if I understand correctly (someone correct me if not). It's relatively quiet and fairly light for its size. AFX FX-90. It has got mixed reviews but for a beginner's helmet I think it's probably the best sub-$100 helmet there is.

DOT is not good enough for my head. I only wear helmets that are Snell Approved. Snell goes above and beyond DOT.

DOT certification is done on the honor system. The helmet's manufacturer determines whether his helmets satisfy DOT and then claims the qualification for himself. There is not even a reporting requirement. The government does contract for some spot check testing at commercial and private labs but not very much. In recent years much of their effort has been spent against so-called beanie helmets that are obviously substandard and are worn only by helmet law protesters.
This scares me the most. I don't put my life at risk based on an honor system.

Clearly the sales literature you cited is designed to instill fear of a DOT only helmet, so that you as a consumer insist that manufacturers pay SNELL money for the stickers on their helmets. Not paying SNELL cash money does not make a helmet inferior, that sticker is not going to magically make the helmet stronger or the padding absorb more impact force.

The reality is that you do not know what the upper end of a DOT only helmet vs a SNELL approved helmet is. You may end up with a better DOT helmet and they just did not opt to pay SNELL for the sticker, then again you may not. Neither of the two standards have an upper level so you do not know the upper range of protection.

Take the Arai Condor vs Bell M1, both are SNELL (afaik) but the Arai kinda sucks when it comes to forehead and top of the head impact protection (2 stars for Arai Condor vs 5 for the Bell M1 according to SHARP - see above for links). This means you know that the Condor is between 2-3 in terms of safety protection while the M1 is 5-infinity (at this point you dont know but you know its damn good).

To compare the two on SNELL alone they would otherwise appear equal.
You continue to buy your DOT helmet, and I'll continue to buy my DOT+Snell Approved helmet.

If it's already been crash tested it would be in the bin

They randomly sample lids coming off the production line & test them (then bin the tested ones) lids only last one crash with a weight inside.

SNELL is not an ideal system either, the double tap from the iron orange test causes manufacturers looking for the rating to over stiffen the foam, you're not going to wear the same lid again after a crash (well maybe to ride to the shop for a new one...) so the double tap test is unrealistic. softer foams fail the double tap, as they absorb most energy in the first impact, slower deceleration is better for your brain.

Haha, I know that it would be in the bin if my specific helmet were to have been crash tested

Just to be clear, guys:

Face shield - The flip down clear shield that seals shut in a full-face helmet.

Visor - The flip-down thing inside of a street helmet behind the shield or the extension that protrudes above the forehead on an off-road helmet.
