Name that sound

Hi Folks,

Pretty new with my '08 Ninjette.. just did my first self done oil change tonight which was fun.. will see what falls apart or seizes tomorrow lol

Unrelated to the oil change.. can anyone wager a guess as to what is clicking when my engine is idling, and on a scale of nothing to be concerned about to stop riding except to the mechanic, let me know how urgent it might be? about 17000km on the bike at this point (10563mi)

Thanks for your input

Did the bike have a valve adjustment done before?

Honestly it's hard too tell what the noise actually is. With an aftermarket exhaust, some sounds get drowned out, some get amplified. Your noise could be anything from needle rattle to cam chain tick, header leak or just normal engine noise from a cold engine.

If you do not know when the last valve job was done, you may want to have one done, it's slightly overdue.

The ticking noise went away with higher rev's and not a constant tick, which sounds like it would be the cam chain tensioner and not a valve related noise.

I'm about to order one for mine also.

Interestingly enough I went for a bit of a ride (1000km over 2 days) and the noise is gone.... weird
