98 ZX6E
So after passing the gsxr 1100, I grabbed a zx6e for $400. Fairly clean all things considered. Just needs a motor. I'm not sure how, but he blew three holes in the crankcase. Each one about 2/3 the size of my fist I think. Teardown will be later this week, but in the meantime I'm gathering intel on the bike.
I've quickly discovered that the E was completely overshadowed by the 6r and even the forum dedicated to the E closed up shop. Even most parts sites aren't differentiating the models but since the motors can't swap supposedly, I'm guessing this is gonna be a long road to piece it back together. Anyone have any good literature on the zx6E? I saw that around 2002 the zx6e was the zzr600, but I'm confused on what years the one I have ran. Any thoughts? I'm also open to motor swap threads if anyone knows of one. |

i had a 2003 zx6e also known as a zzr600...this is the one for touring and had a scalloped seat that makes it low to the ground...sold it and bought a 2005 zzr600, same as the zx6r the supersports model...
you probably have the touring model and likely the same as the 2003 i had... yeah the zx6e forum died from lack of traffic...you just have to do some googling...good luck... |

I found a wiki that stated the 2003-2004 zzr600 imported to the US was identical to the prior years zx6e. So it would seem you are correct. I wonder if the motor from one will just bolt up.
I'm even having a hard time finding out what years they ran the zx6e. It's seems like maybe 94-02? |

Well I found a 93 motor which is the first year of these. Looks like I'll be on the road soon. Just gotta pick up this motor tonight. Here's hoping it all goes as planned.

Yeah it needs a lot elbow grease. Some cracks repaired, lots of bolts, tires etc. But I picked up a running motor with both the front and rear sprocket, carbs, seat latch, and chain (which has 10 miles on it) for less than $250. The real expense is gonna be the time investment haha. At least once this cold snap passes.
