FI and gas lights blinking and gas dies when decelerating.
Greetings everyone, long time lurker here.
Proud owner of a 2008 250R here, FI model. Recently my little ninja has been acting up. Specifically, everytime I hit a hole on the ground or I let go off the gas both the FI light and the gas light start blinking for 1 second and the gas becomes completely unresponsive. If the RPMs are low enough, the motorcycle may die even with the clutch fully engaged or being in neutral. No errors are detected when plugged in to a laptop. I've recently changed the spark plugs, chain, sprockets, set intake/exhaust valves, cleaned the throttle bodies, cleaned the fuel pump, yet the problem still persists. I've had the problem for a while now and it gets very annoying. I cannot do proper upshifting, unless I hit the gas immediately as the clutch disengages. If I don't do that, the weight falls to the front end and the bike becomes unresponsive for 1 whole second. Any insight? Thanks in advance. |

Another thing to do is have FI light blink error codes if any:
1. Remove seat 2. Find diagnostic terminal wire 3. Turn key to ON 4. Ground diagnostic terminal 5. Watch FI light for blink codes |

Also what is history of this bike?
Recent service jobs? What was done? When was last time bike ran OK without stalling? What was done to bike between then and now? |

Good morning DannoXYZ.
It dies completely only if the RPMs are low enough. Otherwise its only the gas that becomes unresponsive. The bike does not get any error codes at all. It is both lights flashing (FI and gas), therefore no errors are present, I have plugged it on a laptop. All the recent service jobs were mentioned in my first post. Also, forgot to mention, idle does fluctuate slightly (1300 - 1600) whether the bike is warm or cold. The air filter was replaced as well. |

Yes, fluctuating idle is sign of vacuum leak.
Measure intake-manifold vacuum using sync port on each cylinder. That will tell which one is leaking. Or you may have leak on both. Also get service-manual. It details tests of every component to determine if they are good or bad. On-board diagnostics with scanner or laptop is very poor. In order for that to work, you need to have double/redundant sensors in order to compare signals and determine if you have a failure. Only real way to determine faults is to measure every component one by one and compare the numbers you measured to numbers in service-manual. If the numbers are within range, then part is good. If number is out of range, part is bad and needs adjusting or replacement. For now, start with measuring intake-vacuum. |

So yesterday I went to the repair shop and had the clutch and throttle cables replaced for new ones. The problem is mostly gone. The lights don't trigger as much. Only the FI light triggers when I decelerate from very high RPMs (above 9k). Engine remains responsive though as if nothing happened.

Ah, didn't even think of dragging-clutch as being issue. That would make sense as to why it was dying at low-RPMs. The FI light was red-herring. Had another case recently: https://www.ninjette.org/forums/show....php?p=1252487 .
Thanks for following-up and giving solution! |
