Late night craving to ride?

Do any of you live near a nice road, it's Saturday night or something feels good, nice weather and then all of the sudden you look at your bike, just hop on and ride to no where? it happens a lot the roads are clear so no worries.Thats how I get high! Hah

Not really, I like to ride during the daytime when I can see everything a lot better. I go out early mornings and the roads are fairly clear. That said, I do go out and ride at night but it is never really that great/exciting for me.

I agree... no desire to ride at night unless it's absolutely needed. Even when that happens, I make sure to ride slower to allow for the limited visibility.

I do excactly what your talking about. Just about everyday. Saturday night, doesn't necessarily mean it's dark outside. When it's dark i only go around the small town where i live, where we go to "the strip" which we drive up and down in cars and a few bikes. It's right outside my house.

Love riding at night. I don't get much traffic in my town during the day, but at night the roads are deserted. Especially after a hot day, riding at night is so cooling and refreshing. We don't have many street lights, so it's just you and the path your headlight carves. Nothing else like it.

I've had times back when I was single where I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep on the weekends. My brain was on overdrive and I couldn't relax enough to pass back out. So I grabbed my gear, threw a leg over the bike, went for a 45 min ride, came back and slept like a baby.

It started by keeping my bike in my bro's garage and the only time I could get a chance to practice was after visiting the gf after work so that meant a chance for a ride around 10 to 11pm.

Now, I am used to riding at night - 80% of my riding is at night. I won't ride Fri or Sat night - but I will ride Sat or Sun during the day if I have the opportunity. I esp avoid rush hour on weekdays.

The upside of riding at night - less traffic, cooler temps, vacant parking lots for practice. The downside - a lot less visibility thus requiring much more caution, more deer out and about.

It depends really. If I'm riding at night, I tend to just ride around on the well lit city streets, just cruising around, during the daytime I prefer the twisty country roads. I would never venture out to the twisties at night, too many deer, and you can't really look through the turns because your headlights have yet to get there.

i ride at night and day .. diff is at night i dont really leave the city and i imagine what i call our "traffic" during the day is what most experience during the night out in CA lol. At night even in town I see maybe 5 / 10 cars on the road. I prefer riding at night when I dont want to go out in 90f+ weather and the humidity is through the roof. BTW when I say humid I mean that at night when we've had a really humid day, if you take the bike out you look like you just jumped out of a pool because of the water in the air.

Night here is cooler as well, but I don't let the daytime heat stop me from riding. I've got a good mesh jacket and a helmet with decent air flow. The only time the heat bothers me is when I'm at a red light. If I know I am going to be riding in slow traffic, or somewhere with lots of lights, I will wear my hydration vest underneath my mesh jacket. But of course, depending on what I am doing when I get to my destination, the hydration vest isn't always practical (leaves you with a wet shirt).

personally i enjoy late night riding on the "2 lanes each direction" twisty highways. When your riding way above the speed limit with your stomach on the tank and your tilted sideways and feel the cool breeze and watch the street glow orange in pulses from the lamps above, its an incredible feeling.

I know we all encourage safe riding, and i wouldn't do this at all without gear. I definitely would not recommend this to anyone else though. It can be extremely dangerous if you don't know the roads well and hit a bump and slam your head down on the bars, if it's hard enough it can knock you out. or your ass will fly up in the air off center and you wont be ready and you're feet will come off the pegs.

I admit it's foolish of me, but it is the only experience I've had where time slows down and no one else exists.

edit: the highways are empty, im not talking about splitting between cars like an ass

+1 on that. You could literally die waiting for a red light, I swear. The other day, at about 1pm, I was out on my bike, fully geared up, and it stalled at an intersection and wouldn't start back up (not right away, anyway). I thought I was going to pass out before the thing started and I got moving again.

Now that my 11 year old is spending summer with her dad, I often come home from work, wait 'til the sun goes down, and take a nice ride to nowhere....just me, Garu and our tunes.

I love riding at night and when I was just starting all my rides were at night. I feel much more comfortable due to the lack of traffic. Visibility isn't really a problem on well lit roads. In fact I feel that I am MUCH more visible, since everyone sees my lights so clearly.

I like to ride at night, so relaxing... but occasionally I'll hit those walls of fog that the SF Bay Area is known for and it takes a bit of the fun out of it. And yeah gotta keep pulsing my brakes at lights and stops just in case...

I like riding at night but I mostly ride around town at night and don't venture out to the mountains or something like that, deserted areas can be bad where I live with wild animals and people haha

I loved riding at night while in Florida. Why? No dear. The worse thing you had to worry about was sitting at a stop light for 10 minutes because the actuator in the ground can't sense the bike. It's too light. I really miss that...

I believe these are magnetic so they sense the metal mass of the vehicle rather than the vehicle's weight. You can buy a strong magnet especially designed for this which attach to the bottom of your bike.

I ride during the day mostly, even though its 100+ degrees out, I have riden at night around 10pm-3am.
It's pretty frigin hot in miami though, last night it was 89 degrees my car said.

I'll put 50miles on my bike just riding around with nothing to do during the day time, just gota keep moving let the wind cool you.

And even in the Keys...

I repeat, there ARE deer in Florida (or some ridiculously stupid hunters.) It is something to be mindful of for Florida riders near dusk.

Back on topic -- my last night ride almost ended with me hitting an armadillo on a deserted road at about 60mph. I'll stick to the daylight for a while
