Comments you have gotten about your ninja

I have to admit that when I first started riding to popular MC destinations (Cheha Mt) on my ninja, that I sort of steel myself for some less than kind comments.

"is that a moped?"

"why are you riding a little girl bike? aren't you a man?"

But it has not been like that at all. In fact the ninja 250 seems to be very much respected. Even by people riding bikes costing three or five or more times as much.

The guy on the perfect yellow recent year gold wing said "I've heard good things about the 250" I told him I loved being able to ride 250mi before worrying about gas. He said "Really?, that is awesome, how big is the tank? doesn't look like 4 gallons if that." I told him 4.8. He nodded and smiled.

Another fellow, on a Norton 850 Commando. (you don't see those everyday) I complement him on his fine looking bike. It really did look like a museum piece, except it wasn't because he had just ridden it up the mountain. He said he bought it new in '76 or something, and it had 108k miles on it. He looked my bike over for a minute and said " That is a 250 isn't it?" I said yes, I had been riding for about a year, it was my first bike, and I had wanted to start with something managable. He said "modern bikes, especially sport bikes, are incredibly overpowered. Your bike will go the speed limit on any road all day long. What more do you need?"

And then this past weekend. An amazing looking black ninja, turned out to be an 08 zx10, parked next to my bike. The rider asked me "That is a 250 isn't it?" I said yes it is. He said "Those are super fun up here ..." I looked over his bike, I did not see the "10" decal but did see it was a newish 4cyl, either a 600 or a 1,000. It looked like sex on two wheels.

We talked bikes for a while, I said if I were to buy another bike today, I would look for something more friendly to real luggage, like a V strom. He talked about his 750 and his 600 and how much fun he had at the track, and so forth. When he got around to saying what he thought about the 250:

"The only bad thing about the 250, is that I sold mine. Wish I still had it"

Haven't really gotten any negative comments, only a few from smartasses that have never touched a bike commenting that "its slow" etc etc. But most people, especially the girls, love the bike.

haha and the guys love my bike so far these are my two favorite bike comments
(1) sitting at a red light at an intersection a guy pulls up in his SUV honking his horn at me and my friend, who was on his Shadow. shouts out his window to me "man, I have always LOVED a woman on a bike! you have my respect! baby...you are HOT! you guys have my respect!"
(2) Two ladies at a gas station see my friend and I about to get on our bikes. They see me get on the Ninja and go "Woooo! You go girl! We thought that was HIS bike! Yeahhhh! Go get 'em girl!"

No joke, all I could do was crack up in both instances lol

I used to get into heated discussions (arguments) about the 250 when I first got it. The new 250 looked so much like a zx6 that people were literally in awe about the thing. And you didn't see any in South Florida at the time. "Why did you get a 250?" "That thing has no power." Funny how a new riding season changes things. You see the new 250s everywhere. New and seasoned riders are buying them. Now people are getting them for the track and canyon ride. I find the whole thing hilarious!

I rode my buddies CBR and enjoyed the power of it, however I just enjoy being on a bike and am still satisfied with my 250. I'm not one who is ever going to go 120+ on a bike so 250 is a perfect fit for me. Don't worry what other people think 250's are great looking bikes.... plus most girls don't know what the difference is ha

I rode mine to the dealership and some guy asked me if it was a 650. He was looking for a bike for his wife, who was the same midgety height as me.

I haven't heard any negative comments about mine some people have actually been like "must be a rocket" even though its a 250, and in my opinion the 250 definitely is a pretty fast bike- its faster than a lot of cars.

I get a lot of people asking what it is, mostly because pregens are pretty rare around here. I can always tell the non-riders from the riders, because the first thing the non-riders ask after I say it's a 250 is 'how fast does it go?' Then they get a little smirk on their faces when I say it's got a top speed of about 100, like 100mph is too slow for them. Anyone with any kind of riding experience always comments on how it's a great little light bike and is more fun in the twisties than whatever they're riding.

Stopped at Dunkin Donuts and parked in a group of sport bikes. A young kid walks over toward me. He had a look of surprise when I took my helmet off and saw the white beard. "Aren't you a little old to be riding a sport bike?" My answer was,"Not old enough to ride a Harley. I've got to ride something, and this works for me" We all had a good laugh and enjoyed our coffee.

I've had more than one person tell me they "could NEVER ride any distance on that bike". I've never had any comfort problems at all on my bike, and I tell them so. Then they say, "well, it's because you're short". Maybe.

I did have one guy, when he asked me what kind of bike I have and I answered, say , "WHY?". He is actually the founder of a local sport bike riders' meetup group that I had just joined. I did NOT appreciate the question, or the way he asked it.

Debbi, A person who is a competent rider can wreak absolute mayhem on a 250 Ninja. Last year I had a noob on a Honda 600 try to stay with me on some fairly technical twisties---the guy actually wet his pants. Guess it beats crashing. He was way over his head. I hope he gets some schooling so that he can really enjoy his bike. Nice bike but bad ergos for us old guys.

I totally agree... Not naming any names but I have a few friends with larger cc bikes that could never keep up with me on a spirited or track ride. Kinda funny isn't it?

LOL, I'm a member of the same forum. Some of the members are self proclaimed proud squids. Lots of latin testosterone in Soflo.

I get razzed sometimes too, don't let it bother you, it's all in good fun. For the most part I got a lot of positive comments when I joined (my first bike, I'm a noob intro)

On the forums, my 250 is aka the moped. (can't wait to get the moped on the track)

Haven't really gotten any bad comments about it. I have one friend who just passed his MSF and is looking to get a 600 (lol a whole other topic) for his first bike and insists I will get bored of mine... but other people that I've talked to who actually ride have all been cool. Even my uncle who rides a Harley and has been riding longer than I've been alive keeps asking me if he can ride my bike, go figure lol.

Almost always positive comments. The split is usually bikers vs. non bikers. Like someone above mentioned, non bikers have no clue what kind of performance/fun you can get out of a 250.

The only valid complaint I've heard from a real biker was about the weight of the bike. He thought the bike should be 2-stroke and aluminum framed.

I get a lot of questions as to why I choose the bike and when will I upgrade.

I ride with whom ever will ride with me. Cruisers and Tour bikes a like. I have gone hundreds of miles in one day. Nothing they say will take that away from me. Many, as it has been pointed out, are impressed with how Tyke and I move and have always welcomed me back to any ride they host.

That right there is always the highest compliment.

lots of comments..

highway patrol inspector (when getting salvage sticker after i wrecked)
"what is that, a 600?" no, 250 "oh, looks bigger than that"

and then the girl at the kawi dealership asking me if "i'm ready for something bigger" almost every time i come in like she personally thinks lowly of the 250, doesn't make sense to me. its like uh..you do know the 250 is pretty much keeping your dealership open in this economy right? maybe she wants me to trade it in on a more expensive bike so they can resell the 250 lol...

also not surprisingly get many waves, "nice bike!", or "sweet ninja" when out riding or getting gas, always turning heads at the store or when riding around town (and not for squid riding either!).

i wasn't there at the time but my roommate was telling me about a guy who saw it in the garage and started saying how lame 250's are and how they're slow, for girls, etc, why waste your money etc. turns out he didn't even have a bike in the first place.

i bought a cbr600f4i and rode it for about a week and i honestly thought i would never ride the 250 again. now i'd say i ride the 250 more than the 600, though still split my seat time between the two somewhat.

Wow- I've heard tons and have made tons myself....

that bike makes you look huge!
are both the front and back tires the same size?
it really has 6 gears?
does that thing take gas or is it electric?
it that allowed on the freeway?
shouldn't it read "lil' Ninja"?
what's the top speed on that moped?
does that lawnmower come with a grass catcher?

but seriously....I've gotten more GREAT compliments that Negative ones.....

I get the kids with 6's or 1's who are compensating saying stuff like "that's slow" or "I will smoke your azz with my whatever... want to race for titles???" my common response is "you may go faster than me... but I bet you (insert financial amount available for betting in my wallet at time) that I can go slower than you, because any monkey can go fast in a straight line at takes expertise to keep it up going that slow" this confuses them, if you have never seen a slow bike race you go side by side to a set speed (usually 10mps) let off the gas and see who can go the farthest with out putting a foot down. I can go almost to a dead stop on my ninja without putting my foot down, used to do it on my bicycle.

from the non jerks I get
"Dig the graphics"
"You just starting out?"
"It goes to 110mph that's still fast enough to kill you!!"
"Where did you get your led lights and you DIY?"
"What did you do to you exhaust it sounds like pissed off bee's!!!"
"where you get your exhaust"

The other funny one is the ladies!!!

"Can I have a ride?"
or
"Can I take a pic on your bike?" lol my bike has been in more pictures with some hottie girl in a minny skirt on it, its seen more ass than my toilet seat! Its a whore!

You should have asked the HD guy if he works at KFC? Huh... cause your chicken strips are huge, then laugh at him for only using 15% of a tire he paid full price for.

The 19 yr old, just ask him to show you how good he does wheelies, you'll be helping out the gene pool.(don't feel bad)

I haven't had my bike to long but I've gotten mostly good comments on it, i went on a group ride for a friend that died last Saturday though and other than my 250R, my brothers 650R and our friends ZX6R it was all Harleys and one gold wing. Anyways, every body had good things to say about my bike except one guy was making fun of it cause it was hot out so my tank was venting the air, which makes a whistling noise, and he said he thought it was going to blow up and a Harley never has any problems like a jap. bike, the dude standing next to him though responded for me saying "I bet you money it'll out last both our Harleys any day". < probably true too.

"Hey nice bike" and "How many cc is it?" "What year is it?".
People that starts talking about horsepower, rarely have any bike experience. Rarely get that kind of comments anyway.

A little boy i passed by in my neighborhood, was really making an effort holding his hands over his ears, while grinding his teeth. No comment needed from him.

Not alot of negative comments but most of them were from my friends on bigger bikes... Now they all like it, my friend is thinking about trading his gixxer for a 250... Alot more positive comments, from little kids to dudes in harleys. One little kid came up to me and started talking that ninjas are the best bikes and that he's gonna get one when he grows up.

Generally, I get good comments from everybody, with the occasional surprise that it is a 250.

I took the ERC with a guy who rode a Harley V-Rod. He liked Aria and was pleasantly surprised that it was a 250.

I've gotten the usual "bike looks like it has a bigger CC than 250" comments. And it's true that most can't tell that the bike is not a supersport as it does look similar to the bigger bikes - mainly due to the fairings. I don't think I've really ever gotten any negative comments about it.

I went for a ride once with a couple of Buell's, a VFR800, and a couple of cruisers, they were all left behind in the early stages, and when we pulled over for a break, the guy on the VFR came over and the same question came up.....Is that a 600??...Ahh, no it's actually a 250....Huh? a 250? You're kidding me? a 250? That? Wow!!!

One other time I pulled into a petrol station to fill up, and a bunch of cruisers were there from a riding club just finishing up. A couple of them asked about the bike, and when I said it was a 250 they were all interested, and curious to the loud pipe(GSXR mod) They believed it was louder than their own!!!
