OH! Good question for you guys. What should I have on or remove from the wheels before mount and balance? What about the brake rotors and sprocket??

Looking very hard at the Vapor guage. Worried it won't be easy to see revs on the road in sunlight.
If you want to bring them over. I can do the mount and balance. I will be around Sunday if you want.

Before removing the wheel . Push the break pads apart. This will save a lot of trouble getting it back on. Leave the rotors but remove the rear cushdrive.

Obligation Saturday all day and Sunday riding to a car/bike show (CPT). I will definitely keep you in mind and see when I'm free next weekend. I would be nice to check out your stuff anyway. I've read about your bike and can only imagine the cool stuff you have up there

Found a local place that said (at least over the phone) that they'd do both for $60 combined. Last shop I called said $65 and when I got there they said "Oh, oops, we meant $65 each." Let's hope I get treated right when I swing by after work today.

Going to pickup the wheels and tires tomorrow, but I got something better here now, CBR600rr tail!! Well, at least that's what I thought. First impressions, WOW THIS THING IS WIDE! Looks big for the bike unless I move it forward a lot.

Also, if I cover the stock subframe, it looks too low to me, but I don't want to cut and weld the frame.... hmmmm.... Gonna have to look at this A LOT with a few other sets of eyes.

Covers most of the subframe

Covers nothing, but better angle

Pretty sure I took these last 2 pictures in the "lower" position

Unfortunately, everyone I've talked to for inspection is super picky.... I'm basically going to have to rebuild the bike to ugly mangled status for inspection. Only hitch, need an airbox or pods, passenger pegs, a few frame bolts and MANY fairing bolts (zip ties will fail they said). Oh, and broke the two flasher sockets removing the stock tail.

Gonna be a lot of going backwards before we can go forwards........

I got most of that. Make a list and I will look next week.
I can lend you the stuff to get through inspection. Then you can give back what you don't need.

Think I'll find some cheap pod filters and pilfer parts off my wife's 250 temporarily. I'll let you know if I can't get it all together.

Anyone have any ideas or input on the tail swap position?? Leave it low or raise it to where it looks good even though all the subframe is exposed? Can I cut any subframe and still keep it safe / pass inspection?

Apparently if I cut my frame (except for chopping tabs and stuff) the bike will never pass Maryland inspection... back to the drawing board

Sad news, my friends. It looks like the street fighter project maybe be over. To be honest, this bike had an unclear history. I wanted to build something cool, kinda wanted a 250 for myself, and my best friend needed a bike but had no money. The bike is officially going to him. He wants the tail to be bare and remove the bellypan.... my two favorite parts

But the good news is the bike is going to be daily driven by someone who can benefit from saving gas money and will truly appreciate it. Most of my hard work will in fact pay off.

It still needs to pass state inspection. For that it needs mirrors, gauges, reflectors, and a tail light. We are thinking cheap ebay bar end mirrors if we can find a shop to pass them, vapor (I know, I know, haven't ordered, $$ SUPER tight right now), and R6 tail lights with integrated blinkers are under $30 shipped.

The bike RAN fine. It runs crappy again now. We haven't got it all the way up to temperature (not street legal and tagged yet, just up and down the street) and it almost idles the way it should, but past about 40% throttle it dies. I've cleaned the carbs twice, and now it needs mains cleaned again. Sigh

Trust me, no one is more disappointed than me. However, when my friend I have the money to finish it, I will keep this thread current.
