300 is the best all round bike ever

Saturday I got my baby her first oil change. Sunday I adjusted the idle down to 1600 or so and topped of the gas tank.
Rode to work Monday and Tuesday, 240 miles total and just filled her up again 4.05 gallons. I was freeway in the mornings mostly 80 but I did get to 103 indicated at one point. Home is spirited twisties. I love my 300

Seriously considering trading in the 250 for a 300 in the near future. Do you feel a low-end power difference?

I'm seriously confused. Is the 250 still the best around curves. If a 250 and a 300 were in the turns, which is better? I might have to change the order of the universe. I have a headache just thinking about it.

I think so but the low end of the 250 never bothered me. What bothered me about the 250 was no FI and the poor gas milage at highway speeds.

At what speed does first gear top out on the 300? I hate that useless gear on the 250.

1st gear on the 300 is still just about as useless as on the 250, though I haven't tried it with a 15t front sprocket yet

I do not have the experience to answer that question. I had my first 11,000 miles on a 250 the 12,000 miles on a 500 and now 1 grand on the 300 so still new to riding and 2/3rds of those miles on a freeway.

I am faster on the 300 or am I just faster?

Haha. Yes, I hated it on the 300 as well, which is why I put the 15t front sprocket. I *think* it runs up to high 20s in 1st now, but I'll just have to go redline it in first for ya' tomorrow. You know -- bein' all altruistic and stuff.

The stock gearing on the 300 is a 14-tooth front, 42-tooth rear. The same ratio as putting a 15-tooth on the front of a 250.

How do you feel overall about that 15T on the front?

Well, I wasn't nearly optimistic enough! I bounce off the rev-limiter right at 37mph with the 15t installed. Lots of 1st gear there. I shifted out of second right before the limiter and was at 55mph. Those speeds are indicated, so with the new sprocket they may in fact be a little low, but the speedo seems pretty darn close.

Love it love it love it. I can't believe that they ship the bike with the 14t sprocket. Probably doesn't hurt my highway commute either.

And the 15T goes on with no modification to the bike?

My EFI retrofit pregen goes 38.6 at the 14,300 rpm redline in 1st with14/45 gearing, 41.3 with 15/45 gearing.

Clearly the 300 is an under-acheiver.

The sprocket changes the indication on the speedometer on the 300!? I think you should think that through a bit.

Yup. There is no longer a speed sensor off the front wheel. It now runs off the countershaft like most other modern bikes, so gearing changes do affect the speedometer.

Yup. Doesn't change air/fuel or anything, so you can just throw it on and ride away; change it back if you don't like it.
