Where can I find pistons?
I was riding my 2001 ninja 250r and the left cylinder stopped working, so I took the engine apart and saw a hole in the center of one of my pistons, no compression. I checked all the websites I can think of. Does anyone know where I can get standard size replacement pistons?

Well you could try Kawasaki
I think you should have a look at your mixture it seams the it could be too weak. Steve

Hi and Welcome!
Need to also completely disassemble carbs snd give them thorough cleaning and flossing. Hole in piston is most likely from lean AFR caused by clogged carbs. Without fixing actual cause, new pistons will soon have another hole in them. |

When we were taking the engine apart, we discovered the spark plug for that cylinder was loose, so we theorize that the plug was not grounded correctly, causing the spark to go to the piston. (The hole is in the dead center, shaped very similar to the end of the spark plug.) Trying to avoid having amother hole in a new piston, so an Ideas on what caused this are appreciated. We will go through the carb to see if things are as they should be.

Loose plug may rattle and damage threads, but won't hole a piston. It just doesn't have enough energy. Note that centre electrode to ground is still same distance, spark will jump exactly same way. Worst case scenario with loose plug, is it won't fire at all.
Only way to make hole in piston is extremely hot combustion many, many times with lean mixtures for minutes on end, tens of thousands of firings. |

@Micah, I've got several old motors in various states of torn apart.
You want a used piston ( or whole motor?) |

As others have noted, whatever caused the damage need to be corrected before running it with the new piston installed. What did the plug look like? All the valves look OK? Is the plug hole stripped? |

If there is a plug shaped hole in the piston, I’d check you have the right plugs installed, sounds like th3 thread it too long & the piston hit the plug !

Pregen uses 12.7mm reach plugs and newgen has 19mm. If newgen plug was accidentally installed in pregen, it would hit and stop engine very first spin around. And/or punch hole right away. But I don't think starter has that much power. It would go >CLUNK< and stop.
