Tachometer wiring help

So I am trying to wire up a new tachometer (one of those cheap ebay 13k ones) but I can't figure out what wires need to go with what. The I need to know which wire on the harness is the signal wire, the positive and negative electrodes and which wires I should use to power the backlight. Thanks

Tach signal wire is black. Lighting power can come from the Red/Blue and Black/Yellow. Black/Yellow is the ground.

I have the speedo wired up and all the electronic parts of it are working properly. I have the backlight of the tach working but the important part isn't. Also my bike will no longer idle, is there an electrical safety build in somewhere that I have tripped?

If i were you i would use shrink tubes instead of those snap on for the wires. Alot more durable and just as easy if not easier. Also are you not getting any rpm reading or just the idle? and i don't get it, where's your speed, or do you have another gauge for that?

I fixed the idle problem. I am using the connectors temporarily to make adjusting wiring easier while I figure it all out, I will shrink wrap when I am done. As far as the tach, I am getting no reading at all. That is a picture of it on the bike but I will post full bike pictures when I am done with this part of my build. Thanks for the continuing help skilletmo.

I have no tach reading at all. Never have gotten one. My idle problem had to do with exposed wires causeing a short so the engine wouldnt idle.

I don't have any tach response at all. No signal or no power. I should have the signal wire right but not sure on the power wires

Start reading from post #23 on this link: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=118692

Thats where i started having problems with that. Im not sure how your is since mine was all digital but try these methods and read my posts from 23 on:

http://gallery.trailtech.net/media/i...010-ELV-09.pdf

another link by Czroe (post #33) :

http://www.kosonorthamerica.com/fCMS...t/BA010001.pdf

OK, it may not be obvious, but the diagram is showing you every possible way to do it with each of the two included cables. You would pick one method and use that cable only because there is only one place on the gauge's wiring harness to connect to. One cable is just a long wire with only one plug that can be spliced into different places to get a pulse or it can be coiled or taped to a few different things as shown to obtain it. The other cable has three plugs and can often be used without cutting/splicing/coiling by unplugging the positive terminal to the coils (before the spark plug cables) and connecting the cable as a pass-through/Y-splitter. Alternatively, you can plug it into itself and wrap around the spark plug wire, but I doubt it would work as well as coiling the other wire.

I imagine that this eBay unit didn't come with all the extra fancy wires and connectors, so good luck. It shouldn't be hard though.

Another is post #26:

I didnt get the chance to do that since that plug is on a pregen and i have an 08 but since you have a pregen then try that method too. Looks like it Comes straight from the spark plug. The image is on the post, look at it.

Again i ask you to read my thread to compare notes and see the pictures as well.
