To the artists (possible nsfw if you work for nazis)
I picked up drawing again since I need something to help me not spend money. $60 of art supplies can last me over a month easily.
So I was curious who draws/paints or whatever in here? I personally mess with graphite, but I'm starting to get into pens as well. I also used to be big in digital art. Reason I ask, I was curious if you wanted to do a monthly "drawing jam" where 3 pictures are posted up (often of the same subject, but can be different as well), you pick at least one of the images, and then you post up your work as you complete it. I do this on another forum, but most of those subjects they pick are showing some skin (not really good for this forum, but good for learning anatomy). Anyone interested in a more "family friendly" drawing jam? Besides, it will help keep me sketching... For instance, this was my latest goof off page:

I actually decided to try and learn to draw in march and went at it for a couple of months and then got really frustrated and stopped with the intention of taking a break, but haven't gone back to it. I'll probably be picking it up again soon though.
These are a couple of drawings that I found on my computer, I have a couple more recent ones that I'll post when I get home. |

I was kind of laughing at myself when I did that. I thought it was fun.

Like I said, if you worked for Nazi's, the non-detailed images may freak those nazi's out.
Of course, if you really feel robbed, I can post up the image I did for the drawing board I visit....

Rock - I don't know if your signature is new, or if I just hadn't noticed in awhile, but it just made me chuckle.

damn guys you'all got talent. I used to draw too before, and I usually find myself being the most artistic on math classes or physics, chemistry.
(I wish we had good school programs for art in my country, cause we didn't really had any D: ) anyway here's some of my stuff. self taught. I think I used a dollar store pencil for this and then GIMP for coloring (freeware like photoshop) |

I wish I could afford classes. Then I would have no excuses. hahaha I was self taught. I quit band after 6th grade and went into art in 7th. I completed each drawing in less than 1/4 of the time others spent on theirs. I was completely bored. Teacher noticed and commented on my ability to draw, then said "next year I can put you in art 3". I asked why not now and she said it was because she had to follow a certain order. Of course me being me, I said, "If you can skip art 2, then you can skip art 1". She said I couldn't take art 3 twice. I mentioned it shouldn't matter since it was an elective anyway. She said she would not move me in there, so I quit. Probably the reason why I never went after graphic design or art or comics.
Went back to band, stayed there, and my high school band director ruined music for me. Music was 2nd to art, and he made me dislike it so much I didn't want to pursue a music degree. Man, looking back, many teachers ruined a lot of things for me. Screw 'em! Anyway, nice drawings! I used to be a perfectionist. All drawings had to be 100% perfect or I threw them away. Only in the past year or so have I started moving more towards "rough" sketching. It has made my drawing evolve so much faster and become so much more refined than trying to make everything perfect. Good stuff kaizers!

Hyon, I used to try to get detailed like that and I always noticed my eyes stood out much more than anything else I saw. I lacked a good touch. Of course practice makes perfect. So I figured I'd concentrate on a more cartoon-ish style than actual life drawing. It has helped because I have stopped trying to be perfect.
Favorite artist: J. Scott Campbell. Here is some of his work.... (you may notice some similarities between us)

Great job Mark!
I don't draw but I'm surrounded by amazing illustrators in school since I'm in a design/art school. I suggest looking at Gnomon Workshop DVD's. A lot of them are similar to what instructors (some DVD's are actually by instructors that teach in my school) teach in person at my college. Keep it up! |

Hyon!
I think you're a natural buddy. You have really good observation/rendering skills. Just one tiny suggestion. You see how mark has some blue pencil lines and some black ones on top? He's doing that to get perspective and proportion. It is very tough to just start from an eye and slowly building up. It'll always be easier and more accurate if you "block out" the position for eye nose and proportions and then start tightening up your drawings. Just my 2 cents. Great job though. I suck at drawing/rendering. I've just learned the basic tricks from being around illustrators |

Cool stuff! I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. That and videogames were my life before motorcycles. Conceptart.org is the only not motorcycle related forum I still occasionally use (Although I also use deviantart for collective purposes, but I hate the forum and community there).
My focus recently has been trying to get a handle on 3D modelling, and I only really draw digitally these days, save some scribbling on the side of notes or from time to time in my sketchbook. I like having to not pay for materials ever after the initial price of the tablet I had always planned to go to school for it, but after I got out of highschool and realized how much that kind of schooling cost, I just resigned to doodling for fun. Maybe someday. Most of what I do is intended to be more concept art-ish, but I'm no where near great still. I get hung up on color work and really need to start working on environments, perspective, and a LOT more from references so I can actually improve a bit :/ But that's part of the fun. I'd be down for some drawing jam thing to keep me from slacking: |

That is why it is a sketch.
A drawing is a finished product, a sketch doesn't have to be! (at least that is my excuse)

Well I'll find some images we can start our drawing jam with. Even if you can't draw, or think you are not very good, it would still be fun to get a lot of people to post up what they have done.
I would even appreciate a good stick figure. Often in some drawing jams people throw in humor, change the background, change the pose some, even the outfit. It can be cartoon like or more like a life drawing. 100% freedom on every image. Make it how you want. I love drawing jams because you see so many different things. Most of the drawing jams on my other board are of ladies. I'll make it 50/50 (SFW, ie: no skin) images, so ladies have a guy to draw as well. I'll aim for at least 2 images we can work off of. We can always throw in more later if you want. Or just post up your latest work.

I like the "drawing jam" Idea, gives me something to do, cause aside from riding, drawing/ sketching helps me take the stress out too.
And thanks alex. |

Wow! Hope this thread kicks off. All of the pictures you guys have posted so far have been really nice. I especially like your styles A.D. and Mark. I'd love to be able to draw like that. I started practising recently. I'm not a natural, but I quite enjoy it. If I could reach the level of skill of your "goof off" images I'd be pretty happy with myself.
Edit: I have attached a scan of the best I can do right now: |
