Reverse Gearing

So my ninja is set up 1up 5 down, and I absolutely love it. Do any of you have experience with this set-up? Whats your opinion of reverse gearing? Discuss!

Why? I mean, to each their own, but why reverse it?

From what I've read, it's supposed to be easier to negotiate shifting on the track. Mind you, I've only read this is that was many months ago so my memory is a little fuzzy.

As well as personal preference, as you've mentioned.

All racing bike are set up this way - be sure to warn everyone that rides the bike about the shifting pattern, or expect damages.

it was like that when I bought it, but after I've gotten used to it, I love it! it actually feels more intuitive, stomp down to up shift, its great fun when taking off

i did the reverse gearing thing on my pre-gen. it may be ok for track use but i found that having to rely on shifting situations on the road and in traffic, where instinct took over, left too many errors and too much attention adjusting to the change. i switched it back.

The British bikes all used to have 1 up and three down and on the right hand side, never caused a problem.

I have the reverse shifter and I absolutely love it. I won't go back to standard shifting. I find it much easier to shift in a left hand corner without dragging my toe on the ground. In fact, I find it much easier to shift, in general. I don't think it is a "wonder cure-all" or anything but more of a preference. The debate can (and has) gone on for a very long time about which is best.

The good thing about the 08+ is that you just have to reverse the shifter (not sure about the pregens). Saves a trip to the market to pick up a kit.

I borrowed a 636 with GP shift when I was on the track in February. Having never tried it before, I was surprised at how quick I adjusted to it. I was nervous about forgetting the pattern, but it really wasn't a big deal after a couple laps.

I have GP-shift on both my race bike and my street bike. I found it very easy to switch to GP-shift, but trying switch back is hard. I tried to ride my 250 once before I switched it. It was ugly.
