From the photos of the adapters, I don't see a way to have a valve at the engine end. That means the volume of the adapter will be added to the combustion chamber volume and lower the readings substantially.

That's not to say that it caused the reading to be 40! It's sounding like something is wrong with the cooling system, allowing the cylinders to overheat, and that ruined the engine.

Thanks for the link.

Sorry for your bad luck. If I wasn't 2500 miles away, I would snap that one up, in a heartbeat, love that Kawasaki Green paint scheme.

I thought my snap-on attachment with valve would screw right into the adapter, wouldn't change the position of the valve by very much, would it?

Yeah I still have the Schrader valve it’s a very small amount lost to the end of that adapter and if you turn the engine over enough times it wouldn’t matter.

It’s what it is.

"It’s what it is."

It's a pretty nice 250 bike, maybe consider teardown, easy enough to get the top end out of there, then inspect to determine actual damage...there's plenty of used parts around, and fresh gaskets available...just sayin'

Yeah I have thought of that. It’s just not financially worth it. If I am going to sink time and money into something I have higher priority items. This was supposed to be a cheap fun commuter for me and it’s not turning out like that. I have 4 other motorcycles 3 are off-road and 1 is my Harley that I actually loath.

Any differences between the 1987 engine and the one in my 2000? I have the chance to pick up a whole bike for dirt cheap. It’s really rough.

Different cam-specs, ignitor box. Use your cams on '87 engine so you have more mid-range and don't have to wind it out to redline all the time. Then use ignitor box from older bike.
