This is what I do too. I also usually keep my helmet on till I reach the doors of whichever store I am going to as well (during the day), cause I have a internal drop-down shade that I use as sunglasses...

beyond that, I have lived & worked with Indians (some first generation, some second or third generation immigrants) most have been quite friendly & decent people, there are a few who love to argue, are generally unpleasant (bragging about abusing her husband, talking about how much their dog shits at lunch) and are as racist as anyone else (giving Somalians dogs abuse)

Is it that hard to take off a helmet? If you know it bothers people, why continue to do it at there business?

I find Indian convenience store/gas station/Dunkin Donuts workers very nice.

And in case I offend @rPanda it's not that she's Indian, it's that she is a vile human being.

and in response to that PM, I was highlighting that using a name to profile somewhere or someone is not necessarily racist. beyond that I was playing devil's advocate, profiling my own nationality to find a suitable crowd who would support Ireland against England in an English city.

Everyone has opinions, if that happens to offend you then you either work in HR, or need a thicker skin (regardless of it's colour)

While everyone is airing the race thing with petrol stations.

With ours, you pump the gas then you go in to pay for it by saying which pump number you used, and when you just go in to buy a chocolate bar they have to ask you "any petrol?"

Their is a rather attractive latvian lady at the pump I go to who always says "Any peter-roll's with that?" which always makes me smile

We ran out of gas once in Georgia and I had to walk a few miles to the station we passed as my uncle was 100% certain their was another 7 eleven shortly I spend a good half an hour trying to communicate with the gas station lady who was indian, I got the gas in the end, but it was an exercise in fustration as she didn't speak a word of english.

I had assumed I filled up, then went to pay, I hadn't realised she wanted me to pay then fill up, then I asked if it would stop at the ammount I had payed for or if I needed to stop at the amount, in the end some guy with a pickup truck who was smoking at the pump helped me out... So I can imagine the fustration, as she was very shouty and not at all helpful!

Read the thread again. You picked out one comment re: the name and used it as a platform to play devils advocate when that wasn't even the point.

I PMmed you because this conversation is tiresome and because lgk is right. This thread is about wearing a helmet in a store. Ai4px and I continued our discussion offline and while we still disagree at least I can agree he is an adult.

If you want to trade what you believe to be pithy witticisms I'll save you the trouble and concede. You win...you master of the written word.

Go you.

you should try leaving your helmet on when you go in the bank, that's a funnier one.

i always take my helmet off if i'm going to be speaking to someone. it's just courtesy. plus convenient stores get robbed a lot and they are scared when people have their face covered. makes them think they are about to get shot in the face.

OP, next time keep your gear on and just take a piss on his gas pump...

I've had a few people get whiney about it, one was a devout female Muslim in full headgear... it was about -6°C out & I was in full on cold weather gear. The pump was turned on but this one turns it off when she sees the bike, she tells me I have to prepay over the tannoy, so I walk in with my work ID around my neck (massive hospital across the road, hospital staff badge with name & photo on it) not good enough, she motions taking off a helmet, so off with the other glove, sunglasses, & take the loud off with cold hands... still not enough, balaclava has to come off too (again indicated by motions not in English) more pissing about with the balaclava which goes under 2 layers before she lets me use my card to pay, as I go to put my gear back on she says "no", so I tap my ear & motion taking a headscarf off...

The que behind me had seen most of it & almost pissed themselves laughing, she was not best pleased
I would have held up the line, wasted her time, then walked away rather than going through the hassle of all that and found the next station...

When I was done I hung the pump back up to stop it counting on my card, then took it back off the hook & left it lying on the ground before riding off...

I found the best station in the world, no self service! Some old guy with his own garage has a single pump and he doesn't allow self service, I ride up with my lid on, open the fuel cap while i'm on the bike, hand him a fiver from my jacket pocket then ride off after a short chat about the possibility of rain.

It's about 1p or 2p more expensive a litre but who cares! I could save that by taking it slightly easier but I don't.

The shell station across from work (where all this happened) usually does that too, the guy must have been off that day.

Took a road trip up north last weekend. No gas at one town so hopped to the next 26 miles away. Got out, stretched, and went to start pumping when attendant walked out. Quick moment of puzzlement before it hit me. I was in Oregon!

(Land of no self-services pumps. Law forbids it.)

I do feel bad for those who have never pumped their own gas find themselves where full service is unheard of.

Went on a 3 hour tour Friday afternoon. Got off the interstate to get gas and take a leak. Gassed up with credit card / pay at pump, then went in to pee. It was a pretty busy place and was 3 hours from dark. Didn't feel like taking helmet off (and glasses and ear plugs). As I'm looking around in the place trying to ID where the head is, the Indian proprietor comes from behind the counter yelling at me (silent movie since I have plugs and bluetooth still running). He was irate that I had my helmet on.

Now to be fair, I can understand a gas station worried about being robbed at 11 at night.... but in broad daylight with 50 witnesses in the store by a guy that just used a credit car to pay for gas and parked and the license tag facing the store?

At my local gas station, they don't have pay at the pump and they'll turn the pump on for me, and I dart in to pay w/o taking off helmet.

So how many of you strip your helmet off to go in to pay or use the head?
IMO he should have politely requested you to to take off your helmet, not yell at you. Understandably he might be jumpy due to his risky profession, but you don't go taking out your frustration on innocent customers!

I'd suggest you change stations as well.

Was the gas station in the shape of a Tepee?

Besides the helmet, were you dressed like a cowboy?

If not, you should be good. Just another drunk injun (did I really say that), I mean Native American.
Sir I salute you!

Your comment quite literally made my day. I was laughing my a** off after reading it.

I requested a gas receipt once because the pump's printer was out of paper. It never occurred to me that I should take off my helmet.

I happened on this, which I found hilarious (maybe because I was tired) *warning* for language:

lol'd. i was gonna stop after the first minute, then i got to 3 minutes...then i ended up watching the whole thing.

ive highly contemplated going in places with my balaclava but with all the pathetic nutjobs and inferior minded ****s who overreact about everything it'd prolly get me shot.

if some idiot went over the intercom and told me to take my helmet off id have them refund my cash, flip them off and drive to another station. thats just ridiculous.

I always leave my helmet on when Im getting gas. I usually just stay on the bike and pay with card at the pump. Anytime I go in a public building I take it the helmet off, to avoid situations like this

It depends. One of the main reasons I bought a moto was to run errands, and I go to the same stores pretty often. The first few trips I take the helm off, but when I'm sure they know me (not a lot of ATGATT folks here) then if I'm just popping in for a gallon of milk I don't bother to take off the hat or the gloves. Of course I raise the visor, I'd smother or fog it if I didn't. But the familiar places don't seem to care, they know who I am. It also helps to lead with cash or a credit card in hand.

I always take off the helmet in banks and in places I don't visit often. I've never been pepper-sprayed, beat down, tasered nor shot, and I don't want to start now.
