Unhappy Bike out of Storage!

hi guys!

Great forum, i am so glad i found it. i just returned from an overseas assignment. My bike had been sitting for the last 6 months, with very little gas in it with a battery tender. ( i know i should not have done it but i was an ignorant fool).

today when i tried to fire it up it would not start without choke. After trying for almost 30-40 times i was finally able to get it going and took it around town for 20 min or so. it seems ok now. Starts right up.

I would like to know if by doing so did i damage it in any way or not! shoud it be fine now or must i took it for a service ...if yes service what! i am a newb! know nothing about bikes.. please advise!

ppl start their bikes with choke and ride off all the time just adjust as needed till it runs without choke when first starting it up.

I just got scared whe i read this !

" The first sign that the carbs are gummed up with old fuel is when the bike will only run on choke at small throttle openings - even when the engine is hot. This symptom indicates that the primary jets are blocked. Diagnosing carburetor problems is relatively straightforward but problems can be time consuming and/or expensive to repair."

the bike did exactly the same for at least 30 minutes before it finally came to life!
