Bikes Swarm St. Louis Area

Anyone from St. Louis know any more about this?:

http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/c...9bb30f31a.html

I'm eager to find more details on what actually happened.

Don't know anything about it, but 800-1000 bikes? I highly doubt it. Witnesses tend to exaggerate, especially if they're being interviewed by the media.

Yep, and it really was that big, it's an annual thing. They just crowd some of the major highways and generally be dicks to other motorists. I don't know about having that many bikes in a pack at one time to be honest, but it wouldn't shock me either. This year I didn't see it personally (have in the past) but they covered it on the news and I'd known about it before it happened and wanted no part of it. Too many people, too many egos. Heard there were complaints of squids out there doing 90mph wheelies down the highway, typical crap like that and as mentioned in the article. I had only previously heard of one injury when a rider lost his back pack, stopped, and walked out into the highway to retrieve it only to get hit by a car.

Here's another local news video of it, this is the one I saw this morning: Story.

And you wonder why bikers get such a bad reputation? I'm planning on riding my bike around town tomorrow but I'm a bit nervous that some motorist might decide to take revenge from this past weekend's festivities.

The dealership mentioned is the one where I bought my Ninja from, dealt with the manager they interviewed personally; pretty nice guy but still oozed that salesman vibe. (yes, I know that was totally pointless)

Here is a nice vid of the rally before getting on the highway. Great if you fullscreen it.

And of course... a quick search of YouTube turns up crap like this...

Link to original page on YouTube.

Link to original page on YouTube. - this one jumps to a stunt show towards the end, but you get the general idea.

I see a lot of foot and ankle injuries in the near future for the St. Louis area. Is it me, or does the Ride of the Century look more the Foot Dragging of the Century? I'm a total newb, but doesn't anyone have any confidence in their low speed control that they can't get their feet on their pegs?

Well, when that happens here in San Diego, it's usually due to the Ruff Ryders having their annual ride-along. I think it's the first weekend of July. It gets that crazy...

Yea whats with the foot dragging at the beginning? Should be called duck of the century! I wonder whats the record for most bikers riding at the same time.

I also love how they blocked the side streets and ran all those red lights.... Laws? What laws?

Spotted a Ninjette rider in the first vid at the 0:16 second mark.

Looks like more reason for the general public to hate motorcyclists..

Edit: Spotted quite a number of Ninjettes actually. If any of you members on here were involved in this idiot display of bikes, shame on you. I'd be embarrassed to take part in such a moronic group ride.

Not only do they do that, but in the first few minutes of the first video, they take up both traffic lanes on a 2 lane road. You can see a car just pretty much stopped because the idiots are driving right at them and then going around both sides of the car. If I was in that car, even being a motorcyclist, I'd be on the phone calling the cops.

There was at least one guy who admitted to being apart of that group on this forum, but maybe he was just riding and not trying to stunt.

Those are the people who never rode a bicycle as a kid, they take about 100 yards or more to get their feet up.

In the first video, why does some of the bikes make the stuttering sound when they rev the RPM's and others don't?

Well I say that was really cool. At first I thought it was made up until I watched the videos.

If there really were 1500 bikers out there, its possible that one or two were being rude to other motorists and making all of them look bad. But the vast majority were probably all law abiding citizens out to enjoy a nice ride.

It did sort of look like a squidfest. I just wish they would have something like that down here. I'd be right out there with them, although I don't do stunting. I'm content just watching other people risk injuring their bikes.
