octane booster

here in the islands the gas isnt that great, It says 95 on the pumps but I say its 90 or 91. Anyone use octane booster and if you did, any improvement in performance? not a mileage concern at all, strictly go go go

These engines work well with low octane.

Higher grades do nothing for you, unless your engine has some work on the heads to reduce the height of the chamber.

Unless you hear your engine knocking/pinging you don't need to use a higher octane fuel or octane boost.

As everyone has said - don't increase the octane if you don't need to.

Detonation is the only reason to ever increase the octane. Having fuel with more octane than you absolutely need to stay on the verge of detonation will cost you power and mileage.

The time when you will detonate is when you are lugging the engine - like 4000 in top gear and you open the throttle all the way. If you hear knocking or rattling you are getting detonation. If that was the only time you'd get it you could just keep the engine closer to a proper RPM for the load and not increase the octane.

Lower air temps (without F.I.) will also cause you to run lean and detonate easier under moderate load, so at that point you could up the octane until the temps were back up.
